Hey guys, before you criticize me about saying, "If someone asks, it means I can't afford it."
Yes, you're right — I couldn't afford it. I agree. Hope everyone is happy and always!

Final Bucket list:
Merz CLA180 1.3
Merz C180 1.6
Toyota Harrier 2.0

Since my whole family, including me, has always been tied to Toyota, I have no idea how much the maintenance cost differs between Toyota and Mercedes.
Any A-Class or C-Class owners here that servicing at outside of 4S,
1) Would you mind sharing how much it costs to maintain a used Mercedes compared to a Toyota?
2) How much EXTRA does it cost to maintain a C-Class compared to a CLA-Class?

The average annual maintenance cost for a Mercedes C180 in Malaysia can range from 800 to 2000+ MYR, depending on the specific maintenance needs. Basic service costs typically fall between 800 and 1500 MYR, while more complex or higher-end model maintenance could reach 2000 MYR or more.
The Mercedes C180's navigation service in Malaysia requires a subscription through the Mercedes me Store. A one-year subscription for the Navigation Package costs RM 608. A more comprehensive Excellence Package, which bundles Remote and Navigation services, is RM 869 per year. Individualization packages for sound experience and mini games are also available for RM 400 per year.

thanks, what if i dont subscribe any plan/subscriptions from mercedes official and proceed annual service at private mechanic?
are RM2000 budget per year for normal service and wear/tear sufficient?

Hi TS, where are you servicing your Toyota at the moment?

if you are serving at outside of the service centre, why don't you ask your trusted mechanic or just visit some of the workshop near your place where you see Benz being serviced and ask the owners

good luck to you, i also always wanted a Benz or BMW but kids come first.

so just using H brand only
*
I service outside at normal workshop.
normally only see the mechanics servicing japanese and national brands car. (affordable charges)
i think merz and bmw normally go for high end workshop or specialized conti workshop. (charges higher)

won't be less than 4 digits per service. come from an ex C250 owner.
*
you are servicing in Merz 4S workshop right?
Annually RM2000 enough right for normal service? (exclude big repair)

On top of RM costs, there is also time costs..
If the Merc happens to have no spareparts, you will have to wait for weeks to months..

QUOTE(littlefire @ May 26 2025, 10:26 AM)
The most 2 weeks. Usually if market no stock authorize spare part shop can special order from German or Singapore. If pay cash up front, some can reach within 1 week. A lot of time drag is either mechanic delay payment, still searching for cheaper options or owner cheapskate. Even if really new dont have stock, ebay also got plenty of parts seller from new to used and their shipment also fast (also around 2 weeks get)

Overall cost confirm is more expensive compare to Toyota, but Toyota Harrier if export AP model also need to wait if the part is rare and still need to direct purchase from Japan also.
*
for toyota always no need wait for parts la.... always has ori part or china/taiwan part or sometime worst halfcut parts.
mercedes spare parts are still not common in malaysia?
i thought CLA and C180 are so common and high quantity of sales in malaysia.
what are your experience in parts waiting?

my experience for normal service  rm2000 annually  is definitely not enough. mercs replacement of parts run on schedule one.  I experienced before even a speed sensor can lead to the car computer to shut the car down. therefore if any indicator lights appear , you die die need to replace the parts. unlike jap car, you
can delay replacing  them.

Outside authorized SC, normal schedule service abt 500-600 as the synthetic oil required edi more than 4L.
but most of the sensors very on time spoilt lol
eg wheel sensor will make the whole car limp
Even a small bulb need replacement , there'll be warning light

thanks guys for the great info!
looks like my 150k budget of 2nd hand merz + 2k per year normal service budget are not good enough even for CLA.

From my past experience, service at outside
W205 C200
engine oil maintenance(7,000km) - RM500 to 700
gearbox(30,000km): RM2k to 3k
minor spare part: minimum 1.5k above
major spare part: 5k above

Quite reliable but if spare part fail, be ready.
Once you own conti car, you sure will gain knowledge about car.

Toyota = boring to drive but no headache. Not so particular about engine oil quality. Feed Mizu oil can dy.

but driving a merc is a total different experience. suggest min a C klass and above to have a better experience. just my two cents.

The below advise is based on my experience, regrets, positivity and what I think could have been done better.

1. Don't buy CKD. BUY THE ONES WHICH ARE CBU GERMANY.
2. MB Malaysia will stop using HSS and CCB as distributors next 2026, MBM will start selling these vehicles directly. Something to consider if you want to hold anyone responsible.
3. Quality of built is not like before. All new cars have quality issues, from non functional wipers due to some electronics board to faulty airbags which they have recalled in.
4. If there is a recall, it is your duty to check if your vehicle is effected. MBM won't give a sh*t to inform you.
5. Service prices are not worth what you pay. My niece has an EQC, full EV and she recently paid MYR 1,800 in all for a Service A. So MBM has two types of service, service A and Service B. Ironically, for EV also, they said they had to change oil. Weird..
