That's why people in India rage why need to learn Hindi? Learn English can speak to almost everybody in the country.

my ex colleague also like that one, from different province all speak english among themselves, unless they are from same province and tribe, then will speak the language.

same, have worked in mnc and have some indian colleagues, they all spoke english even when communicating among themselves

the first impression i had was, "why are you guys not speaking indian?", then after i spoke to my colleague who was from south india and spoke tamil and he told me the other guys spoke hindi and he cant speak or understand hindi, but he watch hindi bollywood movies though

Because India there never was an subcontinent wide empire who can force people to adopt one official language until the British came along. There never was an India, Pakistan nor Bangladesh before British widrawal from India.

China on the other hand used to be like India, multiple states of varying sizes until one emperor managed to get one ring to rule them all
