Because India there never was an subcontinent wide empire who can force people to adopt one official language until the British came along. There never was an India, Pakistan nor Bangladesh before British widrawal from India.

China on the other hand used to be like India, multiple states of varying sizes until one emperor managed to get one ring to rule them all

Don't speak Malayalam but the video the guy didn't mention kettle till the very end till he met a fellow Malayalee.
