QUOTE(knwong @ May 22 2025, 01:06 PM) You need to move to KV to experience first. KK I agree expensive but outskirt a bit still affordable i already did, that's how i knowit's almost impossible if not already impossible to find anything below RM10 in sabah today and outskirt won't make any different whatever that u ate in kota kinabalu which is RM13 cost the same no matter where else in sabah u eat it is not like here where KL is expensive at RM12, u can go out to klang or kuala selangor where it's RM7-8(this doesn't happen in sabah) and everything in sabah is literally more expensive than in klang valley....the house is, the cars is, there is no public transport to compensate, everything else that you need daily is more expensive in sabah so i don't know how klang valley's cost of living is higher than sabah do u know how much the same tayar cost in klang valley vs sabah....the moment you know is the moment u know this chart is wrong i know because i just changed the same tyre for my car in klang valley thn in sabah....all within 2 month difference and the price difference is insane and i haven't even went to the salary part where the salary of sabahan is way lower than those in klang valley too This post has been edited by MR_alien: May 22 2025, 01:33 PM |

Looking at some replies, obviously most assuming their own spending as minimum expenses
If 3K is insufficient to meet minimum expenses, then how they going to survive with? Those 2,3K single or 5,6K income with 2,3kids will not have spending behavior like most of ktard here |

Sorry, I see the list and I call bullshit. Meaning the lowest and the highest cost city difference is only RM 300. Meaning your cost of living between kota bharu and kl is rm 300. Not a chance. smallcrab liked this post

QUOTE(moiskyrie @ May 22 2025, 04:12 PM) I note in other posts that you are taking care of your parents, so using the metric of a single person is not appropriate. Like many people here, I commend you for taking care of your parents in their old age and ill health. Looking at Sarawak Energy's rates, electricity at RM150 a month would be easily a 500kWh consumption a month Electricity at RM180 a month would be easily a 670kWh consumption a month A single person consuming that much electricity a month has a lot of wastage. As a single household, my usage is about 200kWh/month. Some months I can keep it under 150kWh/month and get into the lowest tariff at RM0.18/kWh. That's a monthly electricity bill under RM30. People who are renting a room would have lower electricity consumption than a 1 person in a house. 3 months of water at RM40-50 is about RM13-16/month in water. That's about 27m3 of water a month. That's a daily water use of 902.7777777777778L/day based on the Sarawak water rates (that haven't been revised since 1992). That is way too much for one person. At best there is a leak; at worst there is a lot of unnecessary wastage. A single person who uses more than RM5/month in water (to qualify for the Sarawak state government free water rebate) needs to seriously reconsider their usage patterns. While I don't agree with a lot of the numbers of EPF's Belanjawanku 2024/2025 (especially in the housing costs), the utilities number (for singles at least) IMO is reasonably accurate, and IMHO is a benchmark to see if there is any excess spending that can be trimmed. |

That's why I said, it is not fair to use the EPF's Belanjawanku 2024/2025 numbers for a single person and call them "bullshit" when there are other factors like taking care of someone. For a single person, it will be lower if you spend half the day at work. Taking care of kids is in either the "married couple with children" or "Single parent with children" category. |

I did try to lower the usage... Use fan only... But nowday too hot need aircond to lower the temperature.... And becos old people don't know how to use those tv box, They keep let it running without turn off... Around 2~3 fan running whole day to circulate the air.... As for water, the manage bill me lump sum.... So I think that rm 5 discount not apply to me.... |

If a single person living environment is running 1-2 loads a day, the person needs more clothes. Even air-conditioning, I just run it for a few hours at night to cool down the room so can sleep. Of course it varies, especially in the hot season sometimes need to run the air-conditioning overnight. I'm thrifty, not crazy. For the water heater, is it possible to put a timer on it? So instead of running the whole day, just run for a few hours a day. That would bring down a lot of the electricity costs. Air-firers relatively speaking don't use that much energy relative to its output. To cook the same thing with a electric stove or oven would draw more Watts. I would get rid of the water filter. Kuching tap water isn't that bad: I drink straight out of it. But maybe boiling it might be more palatable for most people. |
