Just some light rain earlier then suddenly lightning struck and my Unifi router no longer has power. Already tested with another power supply unit with same voltage and amp, confirmed the router unit no longer turns on. The router is the new type, which combine the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and the LAN ports in the same unit, so it cannot be bought from any shop. Previously when ONT and router were separate unit, ONT belonged to TM and could be replaced for free, while router had to be replaced using own money. Now TM is using combined unit, how to replace? Can I just bring the router/ONT to TM point and ask them to give me a new one?

Is it Dlink brand?

They have bad reputation for lighting isolation with their power adapters ever since Streamyx days with their DSL modems.

Many years back I used Dlink ADSL modem same thing modem went bad several times after bad storms.

One light tube also kena. Cannot turn on already. Fuse box dropped some switches. But looks like the surge got to the skyworth combo router first.

Hello there. I hope I can offer you a suggestion that could help. Why not you go to Carousell and search for used equipment (the optical gateway and router) that is separate. Then, call up TM support and ask for their configuration to set them up.

the SOP is to call them to arrange for a technician to come to your house and verify the issue. you can’t just bring the router to the outlet because the new unit needs to be configured before it can be used. if a replacement is needed, the technician will handle it on the spot, set it up for you, and make sure everything is working before they leave.

if your unit is still under warranty, the service is free. if it’s not, you’ll usually have the option to either pay for it or get it for free by extending your contract for another 1/2 years. there might also be a one-time installation fee added to your bill next month.

when lightning directly strike nearby, apa protector also will KO

best go fibre, one less worry internal device rosak from lightning strike compare to phone lines
for many new builds if power cables are underground another less thing worry

This is the reason why average people prefer 5G over fibre now not just in Malaysia.

Many other countries such as US, Japan, even HK especially small families and bachelors.

No contracts commitments and easier to manage.
