Update: Got a job at MNC, good salary of 20% increase with bonus/commission/13th month salary etc.

I've sent over my resume. Already answered why the company attracts me etc. And they sent me back this bullshit process to fill in. Like what the actual fuck? asking you what do you do in your free time? What do I obsessed with? Oh and you will need do a test, just an hour so we can steal your ideas. It's not even a technical position. Are they high or something? I have never seen someone asked what's their previous boss shortcoming. I dont even have words anymore.

I've received and attended multiple interviews. I'm confident in my skillset. Just this one really have no words to describe. Not sure if they are out of touch or just purely data farming. It's crazy that we have to jump hoops and loops to get a single interview these days.

I mean thats true. But if it were you will you fill out everything and do the test? And after that praying they will reply and not ghost you?
To me personally its a waste of energy. If you wanna know more about me, sure arrange an interview and I can answer whatever questions that you have or whatever portfolio, past work achievement that you want to see. There's really no point to all of this.

This, the answers itself probably not that relevant unless it raises some red flag.

Probably get thousands of applicants, so they're just filtering to more manageable amount.

they're literally milking more and more info from you to resell, asking more and more useless and pointless question which doesn't help on anything or even the job itself

they might not be hiring at all, just getting info from a lot of people to resell

TS how old are you?

just saying this phenomena is not new, chances to land on an interview let alone a job offer thesedays are much tougher compare to say pre-Covid years

with the layoffs here and there, and each year thousands of freshgrads flooded into the market, it is really employer's market now

this is the era of doing what shit also competitive af, even influencer the sponsor would evaluate you from various angles, gone were the days of the newbie benefits that occurred early 2010s, now IG and XHS algorithms are posing more challenges to content creators

now really wait for the world to reset itself, either coming from Russia or US or CCP or Bharat

Old enough. I know this phenomena is not new and just want to call out bullshit practices like this. Create an account, fill in all your work history which already been on the CV, fill in more useless info and in the end to either get ghosted or lowball. And company complaint NOBODY wants to work anymore.

We should not let them get away with bullshit practices like what this company show. It's not even the internet big Four or some prestige company like Apple, Amazon, or any famous tech company. It's a bloody local company. They just need someone desperate enough to fill all this and lowball the candidate wages to death. Imagine asking stupid question like where is your supervisor now and will you willing to arrange a call with the supervisor etc, just like what parisiansky said, they want to hire me or my supervisor?

What happened to a simple submit your cv, get a phone call, get interviewed and voila you get the job. Man I missed the good old time. Everyone should have a decent shot and a fair chance to get an interview and not be tortured by whatever this is. If its management level or super high pay then I still can understand. It's just a normal job with normal pay.

God i agree with you and hope the economy fucking crash or any reset coming to end of this bullshit. Fuck all of these greedy assholes and fuck capitalism.

the side effects of AI bubble-ism

first they encouraged you to use AI to polish your CV, then they invent some mechanism to detect if you are using AI to assist you during the application, then they introduce even more steps to make sure you are "genuine" as in not to "rely" on AI in the process of getting a job

sounds LPPL

there's very less trust between the employee and employer now

AI is not the issue, the only issue is with these greedy corporation. Wanting infinite growth while keep having layoffs. I guess record profits every year are not enough huh. AI is supposed to make life and work easier but instead it is used as a weapon to threaten and torture employee.

Some of these are ghost jobs too. Jobs don't even exist and they're just there to make the company look like they're growing.

Employer: Nobody wants to work anymore!
Employee: I’m interested in that job and your company sounds great, here’s my CV and I have enough experience to handle the role.
Employer: Nobody qualified, experienced and affordable wants to work anymore!

We have a process in place at our company to filter out applicants who aren’t genuinely interested in the position. For example, when we recently hired for an Account Manager role, we received around 78 applications and had to use this system to narrow it down to a shortlist of 10 candidates.

But I do agree the questions are a lot. My company we give two tasks only.

you can do everything with AI, just with a bit of manual input here and there. for the video part, you can ask AI to write a script for you. try to memorize it a little, then jot down some key points and place them next to the camera. this way, you can speak in your own words while still having prompts to guide you.

supervisor part, just ask the AI how to respond appropriately. feed it the relevant details, and it can help draft your reply.

it might seem a bit tedious, but honestly, i don’t think it should take more than two hours.

The only time that I will consider marketing myself is through an actual interview, face to face having a conversation with my potential future boss or colleagues. What a CV is not enough until the company needs to pull all these little stunts?

Or the company is really that busy until cannot arrange a 30 min interview with the candidate? Man stop defending these bullshit practices. Like what I said above, it’s a normal job not some high management executive position. If you don’t want me in the beginning you can just straight away decline me. The issue is that they saw my CV, email me back and said that they are interested in me and proceed to ask me to fill in all these shit. Why not just arrange an interview? They can’t even do the most basic thing which is putting an effort to have an actual conversation.

i get your frustration and you know what? the employer probably saw it too. maybe that’s exactly why they set things up this way, to see how candidates handle pressure, uncertainty, or things not going their way. not every test is about skills; sometimes it’s about attitude.

try to see this as a test. do you think once you're hired, everything’s going to be smooth sailing? that every customer will always be nice, punctual, and reasonable?

so when things don’t go your way, is this how you’ll react? complaining, blaming others, and looking for validation from strangers online?

personally, i see all this negativity toward the company as an opportunity. fewer people willing to take it on means a better chance for me.

anyway, just my two cents. wishing you the best of luck!

I don’t think you understand what I try to express and everything you said is irrelevant to the situation here. This is not a fresh grad job nor it is a management level position. From the way I see you are no difference like what this company is trying to achieve, which is giving headache to the candidate.

You’re trying to shift the blame to me and act like I was the problem. It is true that they have the right to set up this type of process to filter out people but I also have the right to complaint and outright reject this type of practices. No need to guilt trip me as I have worked many roles before especially in the customer service department and I know what stress is.

You mentioned that
ā€œthey set things up this way, to see how candidates handle pressure, uncertainty, or things not going their wayā€

Let me ask you this, does questions they asked like (where is your supervisor now, would you be willing to arrange for us to talk with him/her, What is your best guess as to what that supervisor really felt at that time were your strengths and weaker points?) have anything to do with ā€œhow candidates handle pressure, uncertainty, or things not going their wayā€œ? Completely irrelevant. And as for the questions they ask up on top, they can ask during the interview as well. If they really want to see how candidates handle pressure, it should be during the interview itself. How does filling up pointless question have anything to do with how I handle pressure? Like what you suggested earlier, if I really wanted the job I can just use AI to fill in everything, where’s the pressure in that?

And how can you determine someone’s attitude online, moreover filling in all these useless question when you don’t even give candidate a chance to have an actual conversation with you?

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about but anyway I wish you all the best and pray that you or your future generation don’t have to face this kind of issue during job hunting smile.gif

have you ever met a tricky client who, before you even start your presentation, immediately asks, ā€œso, what are your company’s weaknesses?ā€ how would you handle that in real time when you can’t even figure it out now with all the time in the world?

or when a client insists on doing things their way, even if it’s totally out of the norm, are you just going to tell them: i set the rules.

from my first reply here, all i’ve been trying to do is help or maybe shift your perspective a little, for your own benefit. but if that’s not appreciated, i get it. not everyone thinks the same way, and that’s fair.

which approach is more beneficial in the long run? that’s debatable. but i always try not to blame the situation. instead, i ask myself what can i learn from this? and more importantly, how can i come out of it better? that’s the part i can control, so that’s where i choose to take charge, instead of stressing over what i can’t.

Apa lanjial sial question, i do good or bad then how is that even related to this job? Didn't get it btw, couldn't care less about this company. Asking this and that like they're recruiting some sleeping agents for some black ops shit.

agree TS isn't hungry enough.. perhaps the said company is really looking for candidates who are so desperate that they are patient enough to go through all those questionnaire which may not even be important for the hiring manager..

just a first step to vet through folks they do not want.

true. its to test how a person react and handle unexpected situations . Trigger-happy , toxic reactions will be vetted out in the selection process to prevent doing harm to the company. this reflects how one behaved in real world situations , like being Karen/ banging table when one of the ordered food is wrong in restaurant.

sadly theres no right or wrong here. today everything is E or Cyber, last time you meet in person, So filtering need to be more stringent.
On other hand, small 1 desk company can seem like so big hiding behind the internet, any chinaman company or kiasu boss or HR will flood everything in one form because is free.

If me the hiring manager, 1st i want to make sure you got what i need. When i ask question about your previous job there's when i will find out either you're qualify or not. Attitude wise i would expect the staff be at least discipline during working hours, basic manners, cooperate with others. If misbehave then me as the leader i will personally deal with it, after all the talks and reminder yet still happen then we ask HR what can we do, termination, warning letter, fail their probation etc. Sound abit harsh but that's the reality, no need to waste more time fixing the unfixable. Yea sure those question might able to determine those candidates before they get hired, but there is still chances of them cakap tak serupa bikin where they behave the opposite from how they answered those questions. You might be asking then how oh? Keep hiring ah? If not those then what else you be suggesting?

What if the staff is a very well experienced? Because that staff failed those questionnaire then you won't be hiring them?

i guess that's why your not the hiring manager. knowledge can be acquired, same goes to experience but not personality.

and to answer you yes if their personality are those calculative, mind my own business other ppl problem let then settle, signs of just do it half hearted, yup even with experience they won't be shortlisted. also never there is a candidate can fit all the bill. I've interviewed many but no one is perfect hence at the end the will to learn all matter to me.

similar to how my boss picked me up and trained me I'm applying the same.

I'll just bail the interview half way.
Sure it will filter out 'unmotivated' candidate like myself,

But for me it also indicate this company is obsessed with overbureaucracy. Not my style.

Say that my department need 1 more staff, pick 1,

A. Experienced staff, fullfilled all the job requirement but personality wise just an average person and not really the happy go lucky type
B. Less experience staff, fullfiled like only 3 out of 10 from the job requirements but personality is the one you guys like
C. Complete package which is rare

Me definitely A, no doubt. I hire that staff to work, if they wish to make friends with other colleague or go play sports or go happy hour or shop trip then go right ahead. As long as you finished your job that we assigned to you, i don't care about your personality.

C, if got then ok because i need is staff who know what are they doing.

B, friendly and positive all the time. No experience i don't mind to teaching them BUT if HR found A or C then i definitely will not take B, A and C came in can start working and need less supervising so why not?

I agreed that personality cannot be acquire like you said but can be change right? Also depends on the person if they wiliing or unwilling to change.

i get your frustration and you know what? the employer probably saw it too. maybe that’s exactly why they set things up this way, to see how candidates handle pressure, uncertainty, or things not going their way. not every test is about skills; sometimes it’s about attitude.

try to see this as a test. do you think once you're hired, everything’s going to be smooth sailing? that every customer will always be nice, punctual, and reasonable?

so when things don’t go your way, is this how you’ll react? complaining, blaming others, and looking for validation from strangers online?

personally, i see all this negativity toward the company as an opportunity. fewer people willing to take it on means a better chance for me.

anyway, just my two cents. wishing you the best of luck!
*
I agree that one should see this a a test. This is a good indicator to filter out companies that do braindead stuff like this. I can accept if this is for an entry level role with thousands of applicants out there, but OP has said that he’s not a fresh grad and the role that OP has applied is not an entry level position. I would say that a better way to assess the applicant’s potential is through interviews. Heck even if there’s 2 rounds of interviews or a case study it makes much more sense than answering questions like this.

People who have relevant and valuable experience will not go through the trouble of answering useless questions like these. Instead, they leverage their own experience and network to get jobs lo. You said it’s good for you since fewer people willing to take it means it’s a better chance for you, I would say that people who are desperate enough for a job will only go through this.

Hate those interview with all these tests. I once went on one and they want me to create a 10 page slide about their company. Have 30 minutes to do it. I finish in 5 then just feign interest.

im involved in some hiring process, not a HR but more from domain side in one of the MBB

can tell u a few things

1. this is a screening process to remove uninterested candidates
2. some questions are 'traps'
3. they wont read all the responses, probably only a few that is relevant
4. dont give out negative vibes, turn them to positive learnings instead
5. if u want to stand out, complete the response as professional as possible then also put in your thoughts on these questions and their relevance to the job vacancy in a separate email, i can guarantee u no one does that

Fuck all of these greedy assholes and fuck capitalism.

i experienced something similar (i.e.: fill in pages of questions and then get it notarized by the notary) when i am getting into a local bank. Lesson learnt, when the hiring process is so bureaucratic, the company culture will not be good (and could be toxic).

Which is why i only go for MNC now.

It's not even a technical position. Are they high or something? I have never seen someone asked what's their previous boss shortcoming. I dont even have words anymore.

This type of company be very careful with your application.

Asking candidates about their personal life is intrusion of people's privacy.

Most often this type of companies will find personal faults to fire you once you're no longer needed.

Also what you said is true, they are trying to steal people's ideas and thoughts with these type of tests. They are not serious in hiring and only want to test the market.

Imagine if they can be so intrusive, they can also sell your information to others to make a buck out of it.

If you're confident of your skills and abilities, just ignore or leave them out blanks. You might not get the job but at least you did society a favor of not selling out.

In some cases from my experiences, some very firm and capable candidates with self integrity during interview sessions, if they were made to wait beyond what was agreed upon for the session or asked silly questions during the interviews, they'd just walk right out without a single word.

There is no future career path with these sort of companies which takes advantages of people's desperation.

To me personally its a waste of energy. If you wanna know more about me, sure arrange an interview and I can answer whatever questions that you have or whatever portfolio, past work achievement that you want to see. There's really no point to all of this.

If you're experienced candidate you have the right not to reply or answer sus questions that is irrelevant to official work.

Questions such as:

1) Your marital status

2) Do you have schooling children? How many children you have in your family?

3) If your spouse working?

4) Do you have family members or relatives working in the same industry?

5) Do you have family side businesses after official working hours?

6) What kind of books do you read during free time? Name 3 of your fav books.

7) What kind of investments do you approve of? Do you have crypto investments? Which kind of crypto coins would you recommend?

8) State your religion and faith

All these type of questions seems legal and allowed in our 3rd world countries but in Europe they can be illegal because they are intrusive and non relevant to the job.

Even if you answer them very honestly your answers are going to bring weight to your hiring consideration.

Marital status for example and do you have schooling kids/children. If you answer SINGLE/BACHELOR, no children your chances of getting hired despite qualifying completely for the job may be significantly REDUCED.

This is one example how how DIVERSITY hires has become in some Western countries:

user posted image

They are no more looking for suitable well qualified and skilled people but are looking beyond that. They want loyal hires which are burdened with responsibilities, cannot complain, would beg to keep their jobs and do as told obedient servants.

Respect is a two way street, so is employee-employer relationship. Employee doesn't take salary for nothing, from my personal experience, feudalism culture is indeed very strong for companies in Malaysia, especially when it comes to older firms. These certain employers believe that being an employer who hands out salary gives them the right to enslave and be condescending towards employees.

What many firms don't realize is that, while they are assessing candidates, candidates are also assessing them in return.

TS, I fully support your decision, you deserve better, don't cave in to their game of chicken, they pry on the gullible and the desperate candidates.

This remind me of when I was interviewing for an intern position many years ago, that interviewer ridiculed and abused me for lack of experience that I would not be able to otherwise gain unless I am given a chance to work, I hanged up the call immediately and gave them 1 star + report in the job posting board
