17 parking touts, all undocumented migrants, arrested in crackdown

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities arrested 17 parking touts during a crackdown in Bukit Bintang yesterday afternoon.

All 17 individuals detained in the operation are undocumented migrants in their 20s and 30s.

The foreigners, all men, comprise 15 Myanmar nationals and two Bangladeshis.

KL Immigration Department director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the KL Strike Force carried out the crackdown with officers from the department and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has arrested eight people for collecting parking fees from motorists without permission.

The arrests were part of an operation against parking touts in Jalan Kamunting, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Kemuja, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Beremi and Jalan Kg Pandan.

Seven men and one woman, all locals, were arrested on Sunday and subsequently charged in the DBKL Magistrate's Court.

Three were sentenced to 30 days imprisonment and three others were fined between RM500 and RM1,500, under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act for unlawful interference and importuning at a parking place.

Parking tout is illegal and should be punished to the full extent of the law.

User should continue to park via apps for DBKL or any gov owned parking lots.

I give up on that place long time ago. Don't even bother to eat at Jln Alor anymore

This carpark issue not yet escalate enough until become national news..

Need some big issue like citizen fight with the illegal touter, or use the car and crash into them.. or release dog to bite them..

Then will become big news enough for some action

Pdrm will wash hands bang. They'll say they don't know whether the lots are private or PBT sewa or hired third-party to jaga, etc etc. Happened plentiful times that when I speak to PDRM, this would be their response, "ini saya tak tahu. bab ni bawah PBT, kalau kamu tak puas hati, boleh lanjutkan complaint kat PBT suruh diaorang tukarkan atau cat balik kalau arrow hilang. Kami cuma ikut apa yg PBT lukis kat jalan."
