Total rm109. Old tree pahang msk. Was it worth? Flesh very tender creamy and bitter. Seed small. Definitely better than any kg durian I’ve tried but don’t think I’ll buy again soon as this is literally caviar level fruit.

Buying durian is like playing GACHA. Like buying a lootbox in COD.


MK durian is expensive depending on grade and size as well if you are buying the whole fruit.

It is like a GACHA, you pay 78/kg for a very nice looking fruit with rounded features which means more meat per fruit. The shape can determine the weight ratio of meat:skin of a fruit.

For example, smaller fruit tend to have more weight in skin than meat. Thus the per KG price tend to be lower.

Bigger fruits has higher per KG price, and also rounded shapes are considered AAA in terms of weight of skin to meat ratio.

However, at the end of the day, is the taste. Even if you pay more for the skin:meat ratio, doesn't mean the durian will taste nice. Maybe it is bland or too old/spoiled, or too young/dry. You still pay premium for a shit fruit. You can complain to seller and ask for better fruit. Don't be stupid and pay premium of a 'lemon' fruit.

Buying fruits that are already in containers is also a good deal because less GACHA mechanics. The smell, color, shape, and texture is quite visible. And can always buy small container to test. Price is higher because it is more certain.

this shop is like others around ss2, you buy the whole fruit, they open the fruit in front of you, and if not nice they will change it. experts got say to look at the base of the durian to select a nice one (thats what the workers do ), but I dunno how they can tell whether its a ripe or not fruit from looking? from past experience, I found the big round fruits especially MSK does not necessarily have nice amount of isi and taste, some of the best tasting ones came from smaller not perfect shape fruits.

they all around the same price, cuz same area can easily spy each other ma. if got price diff is also due to different grade and whether old/new tree.

Im not expert or eat msk very often but I have bought from this shop many years and it taste like MSK like from before, very bitter with hint of sweet and strong aroma. and for me most important the texture is creamy, not dry and fibrous.

it is literally caviar growing on trees. also eat only once or twice a year, I find you enjoy more. enough to satisfy the craving but not so much until you get tired of it, and you value the premium taste more.

this doesn't look like 1kg of raw flesh + seed.

Like I said, it is GACHA system when buying from vendors.

They charge premium for size and shape, because of the meat/skin ratio. But that doesn't mean the fruit is delicious. Up to your luck from vendor, unless you are buying directly from a kebun that you know the taste of durian is like.

Normally, from a kebun with similar trees at similar ages, once you taste a a fruit from 1 tree, more or less, most tree on same kebun roughly same taste. Of course, there is possibility of 'special' trees or fruits.

MK from Raub is famous, MK from Johor not so. Why? Because Raub durian more special for some reason. Maybe tastier. Maybe their seed is smaller, etc.

That is why you see MK from Raub got some premium. But how do we know? Most of us can't really tell.

Durian taste will be different from kebun to kebun due to location and soil. Some people say due to the way the flowers are pollinated. Maybe there are more different ages of MK trees in Raub, so the pollinated younger trees are tastier following the older trees.

Other regions, where MK is just planted are all of the same ages or younger, so the taste isn't like Raub where there are 30 year old trees among younger trees.

But for vendors, once all their stock comes, who knows for sure is it Raub or somewhere else.

Usually that will be the price during the peak season around month of July or August. Now in the off-peak season. Off peak season eating Raun Durian cannot complaint expensive.



This is my home-grown MK tree, now 8 years old and it’s bearing fruit for the first time this year. Just another 10 weeks to wait until the fruit ripens.

No prevention on the worm - organic. The real headache is coming from the squirrels attack when the fruit about to ripe. The damage caused by the squirrel >>> than all the damage cause by the worm.
