Because those fish are flown from UK - Cod and Haddock.
If you go UK eat fish and chip, it's only 1-2 pounds and they consider as street food.
For local fish, opt for Seabass/Barramundi. That is Ikan Siakap. I find this fish also nice to make fish and chip. They are not as flaky as cod but they offer firm fish texture.
