Hi, i wanna buy an automatic wheelchair for my mum. So many choices yet i havent decide which one i should go for. I seeking advice from those who have experience here. My mum condition:

- age 80+
- weight about 70-80 kg
- heigh 160cm ++
- can still walk but her knee hurt when she walk a lot. Undergo gel injection currently

My preferences for the chair

- budget below 2k
- have local warranty and easy to get sparepart if broken (preferable KV area)
- good after sales service
- from shopee or physica shop both i accept

In addition, i also dont know what to expect or what to know before and after buying the chair. I totally have 0 experience in this. Therefore u guys can advise me on this as well.

Thx in advance!

Suggestion is to get her to lose weight.
It will be very hard on the knees

Yes she in strict diet and in the same time still request for the chair. Before she 80kg + now around 74kg. She need to go to hospital alot coz of a condition she having. Complaining that tired walking from a department to another and dont want to depend on ppl much to push the normal wheelchair.

You'll probably also need transfer chair (7-10kg), walker, walking canes (1-4 points)..

OP might want try curcumin supplement for the knee pains. It help alot to people around me who have knees pain. I always recommend curcumin with longvida formulation.

Hmmm i can consider but after scan its confirm that the liquid at my mum knee cap has depleted. Hense the knee joint has been touching between the joins which result to pain. Doc said can only take the gel injection to fix it. But i will take into consideration after study it. Thx!

80+ at 80kg.

Wow that's even heavier than me.

I think better put her on more lighter diet on doctor's advice.

that will help put less burden on her knees.

You've got a big house? Auto wheelchair need to remove a lot of obstacles on the floor.
single or double storey house?
*
The chair only for outside like going to the hospital. She still can walk and stand up. But not for long like 2-3 hours. Cant walk long distance too. In house, she will not using the chair.

Yeah she diet but hard coz other complication she having plus she already old so her metabolism already low. At a point she cant eat few weeks (due to the sickness she had) still barely lost weight.

She just need the chair so that she wont burden anyone to push it when she go outside.

The electric chair weighs around 20kg, can bring out but HEAVY, preferbly for indoor home use. The transfer chair with all small wheels weighs around 7-10kg, its LIGHTWEIGHT. It's meant for outdoor trips, transfering and leaving it in your car. Not affecting fuel consumption.

I look at a shop online selling chairs display the weight of the chair. First i dont really get it why small skinny chair much more expensive than the one which look sturdy. when u mention it, now i get it why it is more expensive. A point to seriously take note. My dad still in good health but carry in and out 20kg chair will be troublesome for him and i dont wanna burden him as well. But the price about 5k. Shopee got cheaper but not sure if they offer good after sales service.

look for light weight electric wheelchairs and easy to fold and unfold. think about lifting this into your car and whether this is easily done. lightweight ones are 15kg and below

go visit a physical store to try on is best. stores like wheelchair88, vechair and Fresco offers a huge variety
*
I saw vechair ads and visit the website. Its has variety of choices. I shortlist it too coz got physical shop and it said made in Germany or using Germany technology. Not really sure if its true or not.

I will look into the other 2 as well. Thx!

Btw u have any experience with vechair?

maybe you can invest in those special physiotherapy for your old people to exercise.

depends on your budget.
*
I wish. But dealing with old people is hard especially own parent. My mum schedule thigh with hospital appointment for various of health issue, not sure if she want to add another one. Too much appointment lead to stress, when stress rise, her bp also shoot up. Once there is a time 2x bp shoot up in the span of 2 days. So whatever we do or plan, need to be careful and dont stress her much.
