Anyone cares to share some insights of joining group tour?

Though I had never joined any group tour traveling overseas, but while in airports met many groups tour in airport, because of older ages like late 50 to early 70 years old, so very obvious.

Due to age gap, I foresee group tour may not that enjoyable, like half way nenek sakit. Atuk letih etc.. Vs young adult, 1 day sleep 5 hours enough, no problem long time walking, walk fast, eat and drink heavy.

Can I survey tour company the tour members average age prior purchasing the package?

Any recommendations?

Mostly i went with tours are older couple (age 40 and above) or whole family member, for me the older couple is ok and they are quite discipline, 9am depart and most of them gather at sharp timing, normally it is the young couple who has slightly timing issue problem.

Judging on certain tourist attraction, it is certainly better if u opt for tour, for Japan u can rely on public transport or self driving, but when u go to China outside of the big cities, transportation is a problem for u, one province has several tourist attractions and it is costly for u.

Family trip opt for tour package, most of the time is to minimize the argument, choose tour package and just follow it, if u self plan and screw up in anything, your parents certainly will be mad at u

I recommend taking single day tours if visiting areas that are not easily accessible. So I usually do multiple single day tours, and in between I do my own stuff. That's the right balance for me at least

Nvr like group tour. Too much cons as pointed in post no.2. In this era, a phone with data connection pretty much can solve all your worries when travelling.

Pros tour group

-lead by experienced people
-know where good and bad place
-more safer if u go for the very first time
-all the tour work are handle by them, u only need to provide passport id, ic , full name and expire date of passport
-u will be given travel insurance as part of the package tour
-know more friend
-the time will past like very super fast

Cons tour group
-depend the location, can be cheap or expensive
-no or less freedom , it is guide who help u
-will upcar / push u to buy a lot of thing at some location ( cause u know, commission is their blood / rice bowl, now they earn above fresh grad salary )
-cut time, this one hard to explain, basically u are given limited time to tour around
-just sometime, the food can be too much, breakfast, lunch and dinner can be feel like feast
-u might need bring a lot Gaviscon / charcoal pill if u feel full each time after breakfast , lunch and dinner

according to now trend, many ppl dare to go solo trip know as YOLO it

Care to explain more in the insurance part?

It is different than credit card insurance?

Or I heard few years back like few hundred ringgit travel insurance, in case got emergency or sick can't travel, insurance will reimburse, like hedge 10k with few hundred ringgits

As others have mentioned, if the area is difficult to access or the weather is unfavorable—such as in winter where buses often run on limited schedules—it's better to join a tour. At the very least, transportation and meals will be taken care of.

Got once stuck in some remote area where last bus is 4pm and in the end paid a very expensive taxi fare laugh.gif

I prefer joining holiday group tour, everything is planned & arranged (even in cases of emergency)
Added bonus would be when you get a local Malaysian tour guide who is well-versed with the travel destination
I've once had a seasoned tour guide who is local Malaysia & can speak Japanese for Japan group tour and everything made easier (whether bargaining price, what to buy, best spots to take photo etc...)

1. tour travel , everything must follow tour leader.
2. travel with friend, before go make a agreement first, if not later hate
each other
3. travel with family, who folks out most the expense is the boss.
4. better travel alone or with partner
