Last I know, no one won the last GE outright.  It was formed by consensus of various parties and thus is known as UG.  So no, our PM was not voted into his post but via consensus of the UG parties.

In terms of seat, they have slightly higher seats but not enough majority to form a government.l (as for votes %, cannot recall who has more).  Hence, the DYMM Agung decides that the coalition with the more seats gets the honour to discuss about forming government.  That was how this UG was formed.

Remember how MCA/MIC then declared support for PN but was ‘defeated’ cos of the anti Katak law?  And after that, a cleansing of UMNO groups that signed the SD to support PN?
