Weak dollars + tariff
Then companies can really give moving production back to US a thought. Weak dollar works together with tariffs Trump’s not stupid. |

Why everyone thank PMX?
Because he stand with Xi against Trump waging war on every country? US slow2 decline is better than a rapid collapse which might throw the whole world into depression. If China become top superpower and start flexing their muscles, who is going to provide balance of power, India? US can still provide a check and balance once they accept multilateralism. |

QUOTE(h@ksam @ May 5 2025, 01:39 PM) the idea is to stifle China's growth was Huawei stunted? same kes when Huawei almost took over Apple as no. 1, just ban Google apps and Huawei is stunted. now if claim is Apple will completely exit China, the market can still entertain such idea... but unfortunately it seems that is like a 5 years away dream... At least many now understands that manufacturing will almost surely never return to America... It can migrate to other countries like India or Indonesia (sorry, I can't think of a country big enough to replace 1.4 billion China except India... so I just include Indonesia cos it has a lot of population), and the cycle repeats... that next country will be the new enemy simply due to trade deficit. |

QUOTE(diffyhelman2 @ May 5 2025, 03:43 PM) the rest of ASEAN and korea also experience sharp currency depreciation during 97-98. anwar wanted to take IMF bailout like the other countries. Atuk dunwan and decided to peg currency, effectively imposing capital controls. You missed the point,. WHY did it go to that point? Salah BNM? Salah FM? salah atuk? 😉😉😉😉 |

QUOTE(accordvtec @ May 5 2025, 06:35 PM) looks like the stupid one is you. instead of trying to run away with tail in between your legs, come and discuss like a civilized person. No discussion is needed as this is a matter of fact and not opinion. Countries devalue their currency to boost exports, combat trade imbalances, and reduce sovereign debt burdens.- this is a fact and your opinion doesn’t matter one bit. If you’ve no knowledge on a topic I’d advise you to not publicise it, if you keep your dumb opinions to yourself people probably won’t know you’re stupid. we're normalized at 4.xx, below that its too strong and will be too costly for some local industries. better BNM keep some money than let it become too strong.

I’m actually starting to sympathise you at this point. firstly, there is no news about bnm letting myr rise. at this stage, this is pure guessing. secondly, countries devaluing at the same time? it is more likely that myr rise higher than other currencies, rather than all countries devaluing at the same time while bnm let myr rise according to your story If this is the last time you're replying, which is good, then it just shows how shallow your knowledge about this is. It's all about perception for you, not facts. |

correct me if I'm wrong, Malaysia being an open economy has a lot of its money outside the country in international bonds and markets.. does that contribute to high USD: MYR rate?

QUOTE(netflix2019 @ May 9 2025, 10:43 AM) The last time the exchange rate was around 2.3 was likely in the early 1980s. For instance, in September 1980, the exchange rate was approximately 2.122 MYR per USD . Since then, the ringgit has depreciated against the US dollar due to various economic factors. If you’re interested in exploring historical exchange rates further, you can refer to resources like CEIC Data or Investing.com for detailed records. //ChatGPT can help |
