A Malaysian woman was reprimanded by her boyfriend for spending RM12 on mixed rice, with him even saying she was a bad girlfriend for splurging on lunch instead of saving the money for their marriage

The woman expressed her frustration in an anonymous confession post on Dcard, a popular social platform in Taiwan, on 13 September, recounting the unpleasant experience of quarrelling with her boyfriend.

"Here's what happened. We ate mixed rice together at noon, and I opted for the three dishes I usually eat: chicken, green vegetables, and tofu.

"Nothing too expensive, right? But when he saw the price, his face immediately turned black, saying, 'Why didn't you take something cheaper?! We want to save money for our wedding, you know?'"

She explained that the price for her meal was reasonable given the current inflationary climate.

"He continued to mutter, saying that I didn't know how to choose cheap dishes and how to 'be a girlfriend'.

"He also said, 'Don't pick [dishes] like these in the future.' I felt really wronged just because I spent a few ringgit on mixed rice," she wrote.

She then asked who could understand her feelings, adding, "Eating mixed rice could lead to such an unpleasant quarrel. I want to cry."
