Singaporeans are too scared to vote for anything else except PAP. Remember they were in awe when we overthrew BN in 2008.

The area they retained more backward mature estates. Considered a poorer estate.

Maybe only true for Aljunied and hougang, but not Sengkang.
Sengkang/punggol area consist of a lot young families.

I agree. But have to rmb that WP always walks the ground to meet the people. So that's a bonus. And they know how to win young ppl that are struggling. Especially punggol area is considered low SES

I don't think Sengkang/punggol area is low SES (which is subjective), just that a lot of average young generations are staying there.
These people are facing more stress of the life, eg. higher property and living cost compared to the older generation.

Anyway, I don't think majority of these opposition supporters are meant to overthrow the ruling party, it is more like giving pressure to PAP and have people to argue with them in parliament.

I agree. Also, likely PAP didn't want to do anything much for those area. Give some candies to the oppo. If they really wanted to, why not just throw LHL there and LW to win votes. But overall I think it's quite healthy to have some oppo. And WP ideals are quite align to PAP anyway.

That sengkang punggol is considered not old not new area, that were oppo strong hold all time. While apjunied ans hougang might be the extension of that

It is the other way round.
Worker's party won Hougang single member constituency since 1991 and holding on that since then.
Then in 2011 (till now) they captured Aljunied GRC (5 MPs), and in 2020 (till now) Seng Kang GRC (4 MPs).

Singaporeans said Hougang people are the most gutsy ones, as they voted for opposition for so many years.
I used to stay in Hougang for more than 5 years from early 2000s, the HDB maintenance wasn't great then to be honest.
But the crowd was enormous and enthusiastic during opposition rally before GE, and when the winning candidate came to thank the residents on top of a truck after the GE, the residents came out of their units and cheer for them.
