I am using the MC888s with U HOME 5G

The modem is a total piece of shit, I had previously contacted U Mobile before and they had replaced it once but it's acting up again.

The 5G signal is quite strong but it will always drop to 4G or even no signal. Until i reboot or set the band lock/unlock etc.

Yes I had tried the band lock or even pci locks all not working as expected. The modem also like to randomly reboot itself.

I am sure the modem is not working properly, I had used other modem is my other properly and they all works fine such as the AW1000 and the CP502.

I've noticed that the website now offer the selection of F5B & H153 which they do not offer any selection at all back when I subscribe to the U HOME 5G.

I am wondering can ask them to replace to newer model (either the F5B or H153 whichever that will not act up all the times)

Any one have any experience with this?

Since you had successfully done it once, you should be able to do it again. I did tried to contact them but it felt like Im talking to a robot or AI. Keep asking me to reboot the router, send location and speedtest result. They either dont understand what I mean by router hang and not responding, or trying to taichi.

Not a big deal since I purchased a X50-5G few months ago. Just though hand itchy wanna try out see if new router helps.

Afaik, DNB1's 5G Mid-Band frequency - 3500MHz/N78 - has poor object penetration and short range = smartphones and router-modems need to be in the line-of-sight to the tall 5G cell towers, eg not be behind walls or trees or tall buildings or hills or etc.
....... Otherwise, stick to 4G, whose frequencies have better object penetration and longer range, eg B1/2100MHz.

In the first place, before subcribing to long term mobile contracts, we should test the celco's signals first with a RM10 Prepaid Starter Pack.

Bro,

You dont know whats happening with UM router (MC888S). I signed up for UM plan as well betting on modding the router. I replace the thermal pad, add more pads, and even sandwiched the router with 2 120mm fan. Guess what, the router still hang when under heavy use. I gave up after 2 months and bought a TPlink X50 5G which work flawlessly.

Maybe try this solution, .......

https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/com...esets_solution/ - ZTE MC888 5G modem - constant resets - solution? - 10 months ago

I had a similar problem to this archived question here: ....

I changed one setting in the configuration and Ping router IP got better, wire and WiFi network more stable. No more issues so far. I have been testing for three days in a row and no resets anymore.

The solution I found is related to 2GHZ and 5GHZ wifi settings. The feature band steering is ON by default and for me was very bug. I disabled it and the modem is much better now. ...
