KOTA KINABALU: A PKR leader has denied an Umno leader's claim that Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have reached a pact for the upcoming Sabah state election.

Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin said he did not know how his Sabah Umno counterpart, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, concluded that Umno would contest the lion's share of the 73 state seats, with PH contesting the rest.

"We do not know where Suhaimi got the figure of 40 seats from, nor do we know whom he discussed it with," Razeef said in a statement today.

He said PH and BN had not formally met to discuss any cooperation.

"Pakatan Harapan has not officially met with either BN or Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to discuss election cooperation, let alone seat distribution," he said.

Previously, Suhaimi claimed that BN and PH had agreed for Umno to contest 40 seats, while the remaining 33 would be allocated to PH.

Razeef said Umno should advise its leaders against making unilateral statements regarding the Sabah polls and seat allocations.

He added that PH and PKR remain open to working with any parties that share the same aspirations for Sabah.

Earlier, Sabah DAP chief Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe also denied claims that PH and BN have formally discussed an electoral pact.

This came after Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin stated that the decision for BN to work with PH in the state election had been finalised last year.
