Many years ago I grabbed a carton of eggs in supermarket and didn't check. When I got home and opened the carton, the eggs were way smaller than the grade A I assumed were inside; they had been switched! Lesson learned. Always open the carton and check properly.

Then one day I saw an auntie and a younger woman at the egg stand switching eggs between cartons. I quickly informed a staff and he quickly ran there with a security guard. Both women were escorted to an unmanned checkout counter and they took photos of the women and the egg cartons, and the staff gave me a thumbs-up. The women were ejected empty-handed from the supermart. Guess the staff would print out photos of the egg-switchers to place on a wall of shame, and ban them. Dunno how much good that'd do but at least something was done.

You're not buying an entire tray of eggs just a box of ten premium bijiks.

I teach you a method which they can't accuse you of opening a tray and changing eggs if you're buying small quantities like this.

Next time choose the best box and immediately PAY for it. Once you receive the receipt, DO NOT immediately exit the shop!

Stand aside and OPEN the box to THROUGHLY INSPECT each EGGs lifting them up one by one. If any one is found cracked asked for immediate replacement.

This will avoid them intimidating and accusing you that you change their eggs of different grades without permission and theft.

They also cannot chase you away because after payment, the eggs you purchase is your property and you have not yet exit their shop.

Yes, but don't overlook it. Seller and supplier may engage dirty tactics to slip 1-2 rotten/cracked eggs in every tray making consumers absorb them on purpose.

I was also intimidated by one of the staffs in a local popular grocery chain before when trying to open up the egg box to see if there's any cracks.
Told me I cannot do such things blatantly without knowing consumerism rights.

So the best way is pay for it immediately and only open up the box after receiving your receipt but don't exit the shop yet as proof that you didn't swap outside.

Usually those rotten smell means they are not fresh and have been kept for many days.

Fresh ones have harder shells not easily break and don't have rotten smell.
