QUOTE(lIAmLegendl @ Apr 29 2025, 11:21 AM) Friend of mine owes me money which he had been paying me monthly in a fixed amount but recently there's some unforeseen circumstances struck him to which he wasn't able to pay me at all, he offered me his ASUS RTX 5090 TUF OC which priced at RM15k retail in Lowyat plaza but I'm not sure if it's a smart way for me to accept this as payment? Lots of LYN members tend to lowball you like crazy lol. I'm hoping to get 11K so I can get my money back. There's nothing wrong with the GPU, he still kept the receipt, there's 2 years local warranty with 1 year from ASUS. What do you guys think? Should I accept this GPU as payment? Given all the negative comments here, I have to say that your friend is someone truly commendable. Despite some misfortune, he is still making an effort to pay you back. Many people would never see the money they lent to a friend again. If you'd like, you could help him find a buyer for that GPU. |

Unless u really need the laptop, ur best option is ask him to sell it (or offer to help him sell) then deduct the loan amount.

Well your friend still willing to find ways to pay you back is a positive sign here.
Others would have give 1001 excuses why cannot pay you back. Maybe your friend check with you if you need the item first as selling it off will incur additional loss. Talk it over with your friend to come up a solution amicably. |

Not worth the hassle selling the GPU since people will low ball you.

As a lender, your action to recover the loan to follow banks approach.
If borrower cannot repay, bank will sell off the collateral to offset the loan. In your case, sell the GPU to offset the loan since it is borrower intention to pay in kind. If the sale proceed cannot cover the outstanding, then you decide whether to sue him or to write off. If you still insist on cash repayment, then you have to give more time to the borrower or to sue him. |
