THE title of Datuk is certain to inspire awe upon many Malaysians besides opening the doors of opportunity and acceptance.

But is a Datukship really that impressive? Some Datuks are probably poorer than the real grandfathers who are enjoying their retirement in a village far from the capital city.

A good example comes in the form of a recent viral video, which claimed that a Datuk had not been paying eight months worth of rent.

The landlord, of course, isn’t very pleased with the predicament he is currently in as can be seen in the video where a drama was brewing.

There was an overpouring of contempt for the “Datuk” while some netizens went Sherlock Holmes on the Datuk in question to discover more about his background.

Netizen @zulazri03 recommended that his Datuk title be revoked while @haizkam22 wondered why people would waste hundreds of thousands to rent a home when they could simply buy one.

To this remark @fidelisaac replied that the rich usually like to rent as they dislike staying for a long time in the same place, that they wanted a new environment.

Shockingly, @analogshot googled the name Datuk Firdaus and found a man similar in appearance to the person in the video. Also, they had the same name.

Apparently the “Datuk” pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court RM 5.5 mil from 2022 to 2023.

Netizen @HakimiMarzukhi chipped in with a photo of a person being an eerily resemblance to the Datuk in the video, who stood with the president of UMNO Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The brief video, however, did not communicate any message or evidence suggesting that it was the same Datuk in the fraud case.

Also, @_Vonherig03 recommended landlords to rent their homes via Speedhome. Apparently there is a tenancy agreement and if payment is not made in one month, the owner may proceed straight to eviction. “The landlord can claim insurance as compensation.
