Spain and Portugal just suffered the largest blackout in recent years, leaving millions in the dark.

-Metro trains stopped mid-journey.
-Airports fell into chaos.
-Traffic lights blinked out, causing accidents across cities.
-Hospitals rushed to save lives on backup power.
-Families lost all connection — no internet, no phones.

Even parts of France and Andorra were briefly hit.

Authorities believe it was a rare atmospheric phenomenon and technical grid failures — not a cyberattack. But there has been no definite information yet.

MADRID/LISBON, April 28 (Reuters) - Power started returning to parts of the Iberian peninsula late on Monday after a huge outage brought most of Spain and Portugal to a standstill, grounding planes, halting public transport, and forcing hospitals to suspend routine operations.
Spain's Interior Ministry declared a national emergency, deploying 30,000 police across the country to keep order as governments from the two countries convened emergency cabinet meetings. Outages on such a scale are extremely rare in Europe.

The biggest geomagnetic storm in 20 years: NASA's lessons and surprises

On the ground, some high-voltage lines tripped, transformers overheated, and GPS-guided tractors veered off-course in the Midwestern U.S., further disrupting planting that had already been delayed by heavy rains that spring.

"Not all farms were affected, but those that were lost on average about $17,000 per farm," said Terry Griffin, a professor of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University. "It's not catastrophic, but they'll miss it."

Latest news update for the real cause of the blackout, ie sudden spike in solar power production in the spring afternoon of the Meditteranean countries.
....... This scenario may also affect TNB Malaysia in the future, as more and more solar powerplants come on-grid. .......

https://www.gasworld.com/story/spain-blacko...160529.article/ - Spain blackout caused by poor management of excess energy
By Dominic Ellis
on Jun 19, 2025

A report into the cause of the Iberian power cut in April found it was caused by a glut of solar power that was badly managed.

Plunging prices triggered a mass switch-off of solar farms which sent voltage and frequency fluctuations crashing across the national grids of Spain and Portugal. This was compounded by a lack of gas and nuclear plants turned on to balance the grid.

A Spanish government statement made no specific reference to solar power, saying the power failure was caused by an “overvoltage problem with a multifactorial origin”. Solar accounts for around 21% of Spain’s electricity generation.

“The system had insufficient voltage control capacity, fluctuations occurred that affected the system’s operation, and generating facilities were disconnected, in some cases in an apparently improper manner,” it stated. ...

= ambiguous report by the Spanish government = cover-up.?
