Chery announces new small car line-up – Omoda C3, C2, C1; Chery T3, T2, T1; Jaecoo J3; Lepas L3, L2, L1

“The global scale of small cars is huge, but Chery lacks small cars today.” That was the statement put forth by Zhang Guibing, president of Chery International, during his presentation at the recent Chery International Business Summit this year.

To remedy this, Zhang announced that the Chinese automaker will introduce a range of small cars across all its export brands, namely Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas. We’ll start with one that was introduced to us very recently, the Omoda 3 (or C3).

However, it won’t be smallest offering in the Omoda line-up, as there will also be a C2 and C1, which will presumably also be known as the Omoda 2 and Omoda 1 in selected markets. Zhang did not provide detailed information on these upcoming models or any of the others seen on the slide, but he noted that they will be fun to drive with dynamic handling. He added that they will also be competitively priced and be built on a dedicated platform.

now you know why Geely is smart in acquiring 49% in Proton. they can basically exploit the Malaysian market and at the same time, eliminate other China competitors.

P2 should really collaborate on EV with Chinese companies. else their EV ownself build will be not worth the price.

they already had Daihatsu/Toyota with them and the Japanese will deem P2 collaborating with the Chinese a betrayal and will definitely pull out of the existing partnership and with the partnership gone, 90% of P2's inventory will be gone too haha.

Depends how they do it, I'm not giving judgement until I see the prices.

For example if can sell 50k and lease battery RM150 a month then maybe still jalan, if 90k and lease at RM500 a month of course will be no demand.

It will be successful.

Below 100k people generally are m40 and m40 wannabe. The market is huge.

And look at perodua design. The interior. Isss sooo fucking ugly

alot of people believe that pure EV is the way of the future so cannot blame P2 also want to capitalized on that.

given P2's record, it is very likely that they'd just end up borrowing one of Toyota's outdated EV drivetrain and plug it in. more cost effective and Malaysians generally don't care what's underneath as long as they "have it".

Currently I am expecting eMAS 3 instead of Perodua EMO.

Your research not up to date.
Already Japanese car makers have collaboration with China Car manufacturer.
Example
Nissan with Dongfeng Motor Group Co.

Toyota collaborates with several Chinese companies, primarily in joint ventures for manufacturing and developing electric vehicles. These collaborations include partnerships with FAW, GAC, and Tencent.

Toyota also works with DiDi, China's mobility service leader, to develop next-generation BEVs and intelligent transportation systems.

Lel good imagination. The engine and gearbox plant in rawang is very megah. And to be part of the Toyota daihatsu ecosystem which don’t forget is still the largest car manufacturer in the world. Ditch them? That would be like concubine want to ditch the king to run off with an upstart warlord.

from a basket of apples, there's bound to be a few bad ones. cannot be helped for something so mass produced. what's important is what Geely/Proton is going to do about it.

even BMWs have lemon cars but their company is swift in dealing with the fallout.

based on tentative price of 90k for Myvi size EV without battery. is DOA.

actually, i'm not looking forward to a pure EV P2 car - am more interested in a hybrid. like the ones in the HRV. i find that those are more mature and more practical.

QUOTE(MGM @ Apr 28 2025, 07:09 PM)
There is no future for P2 if they want to develop their own EV, they simply r not competent lah. Better merge with a strong EV brand like BYD.
*
BYD is one of the oligarchs in China, they benefit nothing from a merger with P2 which means P2 has to give in ALOT if they want to see a successful merger and given the ego/pride that our government has, 0 chance that this will happen.

then again, our "national car" manufacturers are no longer "national", it's basically rebadging and changing bodykits. both P1/P2 now become kedai abang already, in a nutshell.

QUOTE(DarkNite @ Apr 28 2025, 07:17 PM)
Your research not up to date.
Already Japanese car makers have collaboration with China Car manufacturer.
Example
Nissan with Dongfeng Motor Group Co.

Toyota collaborates with several Chinese companies, primarily in joint ventures for manufacturing and developing electric vehicles. These collaborations include partnerships with FAW, GAC, and Tencent.

Toyota also works with DiDi, China's mobility service leader, to develop next-generation BEVs and intelligent transportation systems.
*
what you said is irrelevant as you are talking about a brand new merger with no previous ties, i'm talking about an existing contractual relationship - perhaps even a breach of contract if P2 decided to do a "side-hustle" with other manufacturers.

i am aware that the Japanese has collaborations with the Chinese for sometime already (Changgan-Mazda), i just don't feel the need to bring it out because why? it is irrelevant.
