The development of the International Space Port in Pahang is expected to be completed as early as the next 3 to 5 years.

According to a report by BERNAMA, the chairman of the state Investment, Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee, Datuk Mohamad Nizar Mohamad Najib, confirmed this.

He also explained that this first international rocket launch site in Southeast Asia will create 2,350 job opportunities in addition to providing economic spillover to the tourism sector.

“In terms of advantages, I was informed that, among the optimal site areas (to be developed), is along the Equator line around the east coast, especially Pahang and Sabah,” he said.

The Pahang State Development Corporation (PKNP) has signed a Letter of Intent with China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) and Lestari Angkasa Sdn Bhd to establish strategic cooperation in the development of the space technology sector in Malaysia.

“PKNP and Lestari Angkasa Sdn Bhd will also conduct a working visit to Wenchang Space City in Hainan, China, this May as part of the feasibility study and planning work for the development of the International Space Port project in Pahang,” he added.

Give reason why China does not want launch pad in China. China has much longer coast line.

Malaysia is closer to equator

Well US launches in Florida which is roughly the same latitude as of China.  Does Russia launch at equator?  smile.gif

You can launch wherever you want but launching near equator take advantage of the Earth's rotational speed, which provides a natural boost to the launch vehicle's velocity. This reduces the amount of fuel needed to achieve orbital velocity, making launches more cost-effective.
