Sorry itu privilege only for Chinese.

In Malaysia, you want to eat the canteen food? Please pay.

We don't bao breakfast lunch or dinner for non Chinese citizens.

We don't condone 996, our company policy don't encourage OT.

Btw this report needs done by tomorrow, boss want it. Cannot finish today at 6? Well, you better work after work hour.

This is part of your KPI, performance rating. Getting below A is penalty. You dah signed contract remember

but this is what the Japan , s korea , china did to catch up to the west.

They need to be more hardworking than other countries.

It is partly in their culture as they believe that hardworking will bear fruits.

It is sort of imprinted in their mind since they are kids.

source in Chinese:
https://www.sinchew.com.my/news/20250425/in...ational/6482600

Google Translate:
Xiaomi, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, was recently exposed that many departments within the company require employees to work an average of no less than 10.5 hours a day, and some groups even work up to 15 hours. If they fail to meet the standard, they may be interviewed by their supervisors, their performance may be affected, and they may even be persuaded to resign or fired. The news immediately attracted widespread public attention, but Xiaomi has not responded to it yet.

According to Chinese media "Jiupai News", several Xiaomi employees revealed that although the company has not issued formal written regulations on employee working hours, most supervisors will verbally require employees to work long hours to avoid leaving evidence, and the requirements for working hours in various departments are slightly different. An employee in the mobile phone department pointed out that his group needs to work an average of 12.5 hours a day, while the average daily working hours in other departments are as low as 10.5 hours and as high as 14 or 15 hours.

A Xiaomi employee in Shanghai said that the average daily working hours in his department are 11.5 hours, so he must start working at 9 am and work until 8:30 pm every day. Another Xiaomi employee in Jiangsu revealed that he previously worked an average of 12 hours a day, but was still interviewed by his supervisor because his working hours ranked low in the department. He further pointed out that he was warned that if he still did not increase his working hours after the interview, his performance evaluation would be affected.

china government has been trying to stop overwork.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/east-asia/c...ork%20on%20time.

Following recent pledges by Chinese government officials to combat overcompetition and tackle the brutal “996 work system” - the expectation of working from 9am to 9pm, six days a week - Chinese firms and companies have been stepping up, implementing official measures to encourage employees to leave work on time.

Writing in response to recent government calls to crackdown on workplace involution, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun voiced his full support.

“We must oppose involution and firmly adhere to high-quality development,” he wrote on his official WeChat account.

“We must firmly advance towards high-end development, highlighting differentiation and personalisation, and consistently follow the path of high-quality development.”

lol, seems like Lei Jun is not doing it.

i wont say east asian is too racist. it is mainly because they are confidence in their own selves. It is that confidence that pushed them to where they are today.

you could say it is a double edge swords.

West accept immigrant is not really to replace low birth rate, it is for the talents.

Actually the west have not much of a problem of low birth rate compare to Japan, Korea or china.

Because they accept immigrants, white people doesn't breed as much. They don't have toxic long hour culture but they do have other problem like cost of educations, healthcare and housing become unaffordable

jeez.. 10-12hrs of your day, just for the company.
idk about others, but i would just feel sad or miserable spending more than half of my life and youth just for work and it's a work to enrich enterprises, chasing revenues for shareholders & stakeholders.
it's not even a society-contributing work like scientists doing cancer research, firefighters, doctors/nurses, those jobs.. where u could feel good in knowing what you're doing matter, u know?
