Republicans are known as conservatives but you drop them in Malaysia they become progressives. It is all relative to their opponents.

We have many signs of being left leaning. Protectionism ....we love to protect our industries, religion, special rights, class rights.
Division of wealth ...gov trying to tax or exclude subsidies from T20. M40 and redistribute wealth to B40, special discounts to certain class.
