With the casting calls open to all races and identities, it seems like J.K. Rowling’s dreams of a perfectly preserved, British wizarding world are set to go up in flames like a poorly executed spell. Therefore, the author made headlines for reportedly planning on suing Warner Bros. for not choosing a cast “more traditional and faithful to the original work”.

Although there has been no confirmation whatsoever, about the casting controversy and J.K. Rowling has been allegedly advocating against a diverse cast in the Harry Potter reboot, she had previously given a nod to the idea of a Black Hermione Granger, with the casting of Noma Dumezweni in the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

While Noma Dumezweni’s casting had sparked controversy with many fans arguing that Hermione should be white, the author had openly supported the two-time Olivier Award-winning actress. Saying that Hermione’s skin was never specified in the novels, Rowling noted that she “loves black Hermione”. After all, the character is beyond her skin color and more than just a witch with bushy hair and a knack for spells—she’s a symbol of intellect and determination that transcends appearances.

Of course, J.K.
