Hi all,

Recently Maxis offer to upgrade my home 5G wifi router to Brovi by Huawei (24 mths contract extend). Everything working normally in the first day, plug and play. However, the second day all my device (5Ghz compatible) could not connect to the 5Ghz network. I could not identified the reason, I restarted the wifi router, I checked settings 192.168.8.1 (did not change anything) and I tried to move the wifi router to different location.

Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

Update (28/4/25):

Contacted Maxis and troubleshoot by factory resetting the router. 5Ghz can be connected by weak performance even close to the router. Trying different channel and some work some do not. Maxis told to KIV 2 -3 days and if problem persisted maybe they will replace a new unit.

Did you check the router's LED, is there any Red/Amber blinking light ?

Since you are able to login to the router, check the SSID have the correct password and the correct encryption (WPA2-PSK).

Some device only support WPA2 and not WPA3, so if the SSID is configured to WPA2/WPA3-PSK, change it to WPA2-PSK only.

Hope this helps... cool2.gif

Hi dcheah,

All LED is stable blue (white). Both 2.4 and 5Ghz is on WPA2-PSK. I shall check SSID later, but I have internet connection for ethernet and 2.4Ghz.

I did not touch any of the settings of the wifi router and they should be in default. Notice 5Ghz is in 80Hz but I did not change it either.

Hi Wai,

Thank you for the guidance. Still the same. I notice if change to other channel, the 5G LED will turned off time to time. I set the settings back to default and plan to ask Maxis further.

Thank you again.

You mean you can connect to Internet via the 2.4Ghz Wifi ?

If yes, then verify that 5Ghz Wifi is Enabled, maybe something like tick/checkmark or toggle button.

Worst case, do a factory reset... But you need you have your ISP Username & Password noted down first, else you have trouble configuring it back.

Hope this helps... cool2.gif

the 5G LED isn't indicator for 5GHz wifi, it's indicator for 5G mobile signal.

if 5G led off then you can't connect to 5G network.

not sure how's the maxis branded brovi router settings, if you can login and check if it has lock band option, network settings>mobile network searching>5g mode just set to sa+nsa network, then advanced settings>system>system setting>developer options>band selection tick the b28 and n78 only.

and make sure your 5G router placement giving u RSRP signal stronger than -95db (-85db is stronger than -95db)

btw, does your mobile plan support 5G connection? or it's legacy 4G broadband plan?

Hi Wai,

I see! I will check your guidance on the settings later. My router is place near my balcony window for better signal. My mobile plan is 5G hotlink plan. It is mediocre at my area with 1 or 2 bar indoor. Is this something related?

you gotta try to find the best spot by yourself.

check the RSRP value in router setting page.

wanna share 1 trick for u guys to locate best spot to place your 5G modem router.

take a samsung 5G phone and dial *#0011#

then select your 5G sim (sim1 / sim2)

then place your phone on the spot you want to put the 5G modem router.

check and see which spot has the best RSRP signal. (-80 is stronger than -90)

SINR higher is better. (5 is higher than -5)

normally the corner of the wall near window has better signal.

Hi Wai,

Below is the modem detail

RSQR -19dB
RSRP -83dBm
RSSI -56dBm
SINR -7dB

I have really no idea now. Hahaha I will contact Maxis and try to reset the modem to see whether it solves the problem over the weekend.

RSRP signal is ok

SINR is -7db or 7db? -7db is bad, 7db is ok.

then you contact maxis and see how.

if it happens again then u might want to try other method like turn off the brovi router and connect to another wifi router via lan cable and use as access point.

Update 5/5/2025: The 5G Wifi Router still facing 5Ghz connection problem despite reset a couple of times. Bringing back to Maxis in exchange a new unit. Unsure whether it is hardware problem.

I have retry with the old TPlink router, no problem with 5Ghz indoor.
