Last time there was one homestay in Indonesia, the owner told me that they love to complain and then ask for discount during checking out. He told it wasn't one time but many times from the same country. Now he knows their "tricks" and ask them to fly kite.

I think the hotel is asking the credit card and swipe for pre-authorize balance, which hold a sum for deposit, if got something missing/damage they can key on it and deduct balance out from it.

Thailand buka visa free for Bharatian and they are making a scene at Pattaya beach, dirty the beach, throw beer bottle at the beach, kacau the bikini tourist there.

Because to them, holding as deposit aka become poorer cannot spend the card.
