Hi sifus, as per title I've recently purchased an SSD (Kingston NV3) from a reputable shop in Shopee, little did I know that the seller couldn't care more to give the SSD some extra protection for shipping even though I've reminded them to put extra bubble wrap and put in a card box for protection, they took it as a joke and decided to give me something the opposite: no protection at all. As if they are telling me to STFU , don't tell me what to do. (This kind of mentality still exist?)

Given how reputable the shop is , I gave it a shot. but when I receive the parcel yesterday , I was shocked that the SSD was shipped with little to no protection at all. Now I know that SSDs are prone to bending, god knows what happened during the shipping, it could've been on a heavy object or some sort.

The problem now with myself is , given how much cheaper online prices are vs local prices, I'm having a huge dilemma whether to keep it or not as I'm afraid that the slightest bend to the PCB would cause damage to the SSD, but the shopee return policy is that it's easier to return if it's in unopened state. If you open it and test you will have to show them unboxing video (funny right?) and prove to them that the SSD is not working. Which can take weeks to get back your money.

Another thing is the SSD is at least rm30 cheaper vs local prices per unit, I bought 2 units, that's rm60-70 cheaper than local price, but at a risk of the SSD not working after who knows how long after it was mishandled during the shipping process.

My question is, has anyone purchased SSD online before with little to no protection and the SSD still running fine? Should I bite the bullet and use it and throw few years later? (Lazy to go through RMA process also TBH although it's covered with 3 years warranty by Kingston)

Noob question yes but I can't decide! mad.gif bangwall.gif bye.gif cry.gif

Here's a picture to show the actual product

Hi Gibson, yes, but prone to bending and looking at Kingston's standard packaging, also give no protection at all, bull tech company trying to save cost in their packaging.

I think you might be overthinking it a bit. The packaging looks normal in the photo; there is no bending, creasing, or visible damage.

In my opinion, you're good to go.

The packaging is reference only, I didnt manage to take pictures of the unboxing, there were only some creases on top, the plastic looks ok. Just takut use half way then not working then hassle to go throught RMA.

That's disgusting. I've had headphone pads shipped to me with better protection and these guys won't do it for a SSD.

I even had those gel type screen protectors in proper box too . These PC shops should up the ante. Providing safer solutions bah. Risky to buy from online vs local with no proper packaging.

Some even charge u extra RM5.00 for extra protection where in the first place they should provide enough protection.

If the original box has adequate protection itself is fine , but looking at these SSDs, only paper card board and wrapped in plastic, I think at least proper bubble wrap and then put in card box to protect the SSD, as they are prone to bending eventhough there are no moving parts.

Its from P* I*****

I think its exactly what they want us to do, to take it anyways even if it was shipped poorly, due to cheaper prices.

So I'm going to return it. Must let the good side win. 1-0

I have bought online from almost all the so called big names in LY , all did their shipping packaging poorly, versus smaller shops. Why do they do this? No time for packing the things nicely? Prefer offline business? Bubble wrap very expensive?

PC Byte does a good job so far for me providing extra bubble and card board to protect the stuff eventhough I've never requested anything from them. Sadly it looks like they are clearing their inventory and moving away from the market. Hence no new products update on their shopee page?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've decided to return it and buy locally.

I see. You should have included a photo of the actual item that you received from the seller so that people can give you an honest assessment of its condition. bangwall.gif

I don't get it. You say that it was "at least" RM30 cheaper per piece, (but later say it is RM60 - RM70 cheaper for 2 pieces) but you wouldn't add on RM5 for extra secure bubble wrap. Wouldn't that have just made it RM25 cheaper that others? Still cheaper right?

Instead you spend all this time and energy and anguish, for RM5
So, I donno. Congratulations_you_played_yourself.gif?

Oh ya I should've taken more pictures but I was pretty disappointed at it , first thought was instantly return it, but then the price, made me think twice this morning before the courier comes and pick it up later. Haha.

Oh I just checked, they are charging RM19.10 for extra bubble wrap, and another additional rm19.10 for box, (rm5.00 was just an example), that would be rm38.00 in total for the "proper protection". I guess still rm20-30 cheaper lah for both items compared to buying locally. If I knew it was this bad, I would have either not purchase from them, and go to a store that charges slighly more but provides proper packaging. Putting it in an old recycled box or any recycled card boards surrounding it would have done the trick.

But yeah, maybe I was too naive thinking that big names = proper packaging. But can we get at least adequate protection? I'm not asking for bullet proof packaging, but adequte? By default all fragile items should have been at least double or triple layer bubble wrapped, and a fragile sticker on top would be nice for these of kind of items. That wouldn't even cost rm5.00.

Imagine yourself spending RM400++ on a store, but all they can provide is paper thin bubble wrap, and if you want "proper protection" you need to pay extra RM38.00 or whatever the amount is to have "proper proctection" which supposed to come as default.

Ok man. Glad it worked for you, is the RAM still working? My bubble wrap is badly paper thin oh hahaha.. a bit paranoid for long term use. Maybe I overthought it.
