Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the kidnapping was masterminded by a 31-year-old woman.
"On the day of the incident, the 16-year-old girl and her mother went to a beauty salon. Not long after that, the victim wanted to go to a nearby supermarket before she was kidnapped by a man and shoved into a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
"In the vehicle, the victim was tied up and stuffed into the luggage bag," he told a press conference at CID headquarters on Tuesday (April 15).
The victim's family then received a RM2mil ransom demand, he said.
"After negotiating with the kidnappers, the family managed to pay RM280,000 along with several gold necklaces," he said.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the kidnappers even scanned the ransom bag using a metal detector to check whether there was a tracker placed.
