Yesterday, the gear indicator started flashing with overlapping gear icons. The car was incredibly jerky, didn't seem like it wanted to get out of first/second gear. I stopped the car, said a prayer, re-started around 15 seconds later and the car has been going well.

What happened? Can I ignore what happened?

Nowadays people really miss out common sense & also dont even read thru their car manual book on those signal/logo meanings, if meter come out warning or some logo which is out of ordinary please go to your nearest mechanic and check it out, sure something spoilt already and need fix.

Most of the persons reported on Facebook Group says its gearbox sensor malfunction

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZEX04htz4k

if you are in kl, there is one honda specialist that me and a few forummer go to.
but at the same time, i think got at least one forummer vote against it.

don't so fast listen pomen say change gearbox seketul.
that's what my friend did with his myvi when he asked me and i told him might be sensor issue only.
he decided to trust the workshopand spent a couple of thousands laugh.gif
to the foreman credit, no issue since then but might be overkill.

In my case, when the indicator light was flashing, the car was jerking when apply the acceleration pedal. So there was a physical impact too. But curiously since then, I've been using the car with zero issues.

How much the cost to change City gearbox?

no idea the price of gearbox but you are asking the wrong question.
despite me taking the effort to explain it might be a smaller issue (sensor), you choose to ask the price to replace the whole gearbox.

At least got warning and still can drive.

Some like Proton CVT will flash a durian symbol and eventually the D becomes - and they cannot drive at all. Resetting can drive but at very short distances.

This is a symptom of DMS or Drive Mode Sensor. Cost about 400-500 bucks to replace including CVT oil change because the bloody sensor is accessible after taking off the oil pan.

China gearbox. Poor design. Sensor is inside the gearbox near the filter. Need to drain the oil before opening the pan.

Okay, so the official SC checked the car yesterday.

1. No issue with the wiring
2. No issue with the transmission/gearbox oil
3. Not able to reproduce the issue when troubleshooting
4. However, the confirm that there is an error code registered in the system.
5. They mentioned something about "solenoid stuck in gearbox". But the SA not able to explain much further in details.
6. They have done a "reset"
7. Final outcome - no further action and the car is safe to drive.
8. However, they advised that if this error were to recur, I must change my gearbox. Estimated cost RM20k

Can somebody please explain what's going on and if the Honda SC is correct in their diagnosis. If further recur, must change entire gearbox? What about the "solenoid stuck in gearbox"?

Thanks!

Passed experience with Honda SC for previous gen HRV. The gb got jerkiness scenario (at 50-70kmh) and can repeated the scenario everytime, so when to SC for checking when the car is still under final year warranty. Told normal but test drive the hrv showroom car not having any of it. Complaint, technician suggest change and pay for CVT oil change, done. Still same feedback after the cvt oil change, but SC written already proceed with cvt oil change. Then warranty ended, sent to SC cz the jerkiness getting more and best part when no more warranty, told gb issues and slap with rm21k iinm invoices. Get out and proceed to outside gb repair shop. When they take a look at the drained cvt oil, it already full with steel dust and workshop said sure from the steel belt. Paid rm4k+ for the belts replacement and new cvt oil, getting 1 year warranty. Drove for 1.5 years without even any jerkiness at all but proceed to let go for a brand new car.
