If you feel lag with a 12600k, that is not your CPU fault for sure. That thing is plenty fast for excel. It has to be something else , SSD , ran out of RAM or thermal throttling, mobo VRM overheating. Maybe its your OS or your pc kena virus.
When you upgrade your rig , especially a whole new platform ,it is highly recommended that you format your whole OS or you might be leaving some performance untapped.
Dont just upgrade for the sake of upgrade. In the end you might just be wasting money but achieve nothing.
