Maybank Introduces Global Access Account-i With Multi-Currency Support

Maybank has introduced the Global Access Account-i and debit card, offering customers a new multi-currency solution to manage international transactions with ease. Designed to simplify foreign currency exchange, spending and transfers, the new account allows users to hold, convert, send, receive and spend in up to 18 currencies seamlessly through the MAE app. In a way, this is somewhat Maybank’s answer to Wise.

One of the key features of the Global Access Account-i is the zero currency conversion fee when converting via the Maybank MAE app. Customers can lock in competitive, real-time exchange rates with no hidden charges or unexpected fluctuations. According to the bank, supported currencies include the US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, British Pound, and more.

There are 18 currencies available for you to use in Global Access Account-i.

The account also offers monthly bonus profit rates that are Shariah-compliant, helping customers grow their balances while enjoying the protection of Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) coverage up to RM250,000 per depositor. Additionally, account holders will benefit from travel medical coverage up to USD100,000 provided by Mastercard and personal accident coverage up to RM100,000 underwritten by Etiqa, offering extra protection while travelling abroad.

Customers can sign up via maybank.my/globalaccess, or by tapping the “Apply” button at the bottom right corner of the MAE App, select “Global Access Account-i”, and then “Apply Now”. In conjunction with the launch, Maybank is offering customers a chance to win RM99,500 worth of prizes, including a pair of Business Class flight tickets to any European destination

Manage to open, rate is not good even when compared with RHB MCA but so far no fee.

Need to put money during application and pay debit card rm8. Maybank should at least waive this maybe for first 10,000 applicant.

Debit card will be posted and only then u can use it to transact. Other than the debit card design is cool, dunno what else can be praise here.

- every forex transaction they make from the buy/sell spread
- can act as agent/informant to LHDN of yr hidden overseas assets

already can use apple pay as multi currency account.

All the bank have this kind of multi currency acc for sometime. PB is the last wan to implement it.

But I prefer keep it back at the original country for safe. It also cost to transfer back.

Same currency transfer back will save the exchange rate. You have the flex time when to exchange base on the market. But the cost of remit back ?

There is some financial service in certain country (ex, US) that have free fee.

2. Can receive and send currency to ppl in US/UK/SG/etc like DuitNow/Wise ?

Yep at Thailand, 7-11 got 200Baht min spend. But for smaller single items like water or drinks just go to Tops, BigC or Lotus if nearby.
Not as many as 7-11 but some should still be nearby anyways

For Malaysians not working in sg, just skip and straightaway open MBB sg bank acct https://apply.maybank.com.sg/regionalcasa/A...Opening/arrihla when you hold USD10 & SGD10 with Wise, you are actually holding USD10 in Wise USA and SGD10 in Wise Sg. if u research wise carefully you'll know that no cross-border transfer actually happens, i.e., when you convert MYR to USD, you are releasing your MYR to Wise MY, and in return you get USD from Wise USA. that's the reason why you can send money to usa ppl/sg like a local

Looks good. In fact, i just open this global access account few days ago. Waiting for debit card arrived.

Unfortunately, I wish if maybank can please add Chinese yuan (CNY) currency onto this one as for foreign currency balance, especially I'm using Alipay and WeChat pay often for online payments and online subscription on Chinese platforms.

I'm still stuck with enrichmoney card for CNY payment purpose but I need to use another phone with google play service to use the enrichmoney app to do that without additional 1% markup and if I'm using maybank debit card directly for this it will charge additional 1% markup for that so that's why I'm using enrichmoney card for CNY payment purpose.

So I called Maybank just now, asking if I can make the GA debit card my main one and cancel the rest.
He said it's not advisable and asked to keep the other card first.
He also said they're pilot testing on some users so that the account and card will show up on Maybank2u. Once it shows up for everyone, then can maybe cancel it.
Otherwise go cancel the RM8 debit fee, so at least the won't need to pay anything for both cards.

Been using this account as my main foreign transaction driver. so far so good.

But there is still some quirks unsoved, like contactless is not accepted at petrol station, only pin (but worked fine in any other terminals like retail or hotel).

Also still can't add into google wallet. The card is now recognized, but fail without any meaningful error in app authentication step.

I only use this card because I already got Maybank main acc, to make things simpler since I don't need to maintain separate wise account anymore.
