I found a 2023 model year smartphone for sale on Carousell;
Brand new, sealed in box, photos provided;
Selling for about 60% of the retail price.

The seller has been active for 3 years with 130+ good reviews, mostly selling electronic gadgets.

I'm inclined to think this deal is legit but I'd thought I'd ask /SeriousK

Sometimes you need to exercise some critical thinking. do your own due diligence.

If you so paranoid about it, cough out the extra dough and buy retail. Otherwise buy it if you want to be cheapskate. If u want to be both cheapskate and paranoid, don't buy it then. Easy.

Look at his or her reviews. Check out their profiles. Profiles with a lot of numbers and not selling anything/ no reviews are to be avoided.

I sometimes sent them a PM too just to be sure especially when If I feel the reviewer profile is legit.

Reason for selling?

2 year old phone for only 40% discount? Why would you think it's worth it? Even iPhone 16 now can get RM700 discount, iPhone 15 normal price is RM2500 during sales. This is all retail price

He advertised Wii U games, there's few titles which i want for so long to be part of my collections
Pm thru carousell, then bank in, waited for 4 days still the games didn't arrive at my place, then pm him again he said tomorrow he will post the games, nearly a week still no parcel from him
Then pm him again, he told me that he's not a badguy, then i asked for refund, then he just keep quiet
I made a police report at kajang, until now there's nothing can be done, rm400 plus burned 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Well i did went to the bank, after that no news from the bank, call them they said they are working on it 😔🔥

High chance is contract with telco. Either free or rm1 or 80% discount. Thats why can give 60% still profit 20%.

But, the risk is if telco-locked. Means if seller didnt pay bill, then that phone can be locked. But seller mykad will be black-list also so not worth it also for seller.

Maybe coz really just want to use the plan or recontract but already got phone.

I give example digi one ultra, rm260 for 300mbps fibre + 3 unlimited sim + hotstar premium, then u can add rm1/month for phone worth rm2.2k, sell back the phone @ rm1.2k still profit

Used to shop a lot thru carousell, all went smoothly, only once been scammed 😉🔥

if can COD, why not? you can check yourself the condition. just make sure its not a locked telco set like other /k have mentioned, and to find out the reason of selling it in the 1st place.

back in my garage sales days, the reason for selling (RFS) is pretty important in the description.

I'd skip if postage, though.
