RPGs have transformed from tabletop classics like Dungeons & Dragons to massive open-world experiences like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim.

In the early days (1970s-80s), tabletop games emphasized storytelling, character progression, and player choice. This foundation inspired early computer RPGs like Ultima and Wizardry, which brought those concepts to the digital realm.

The 1990s saw the rise of console RPGs, with Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger offering linear but emotionally rich storytelling. Meanwhile, Western RPGs leaned into open-world exploration.

The 2000s onward marked the dominance of open-world RPGs, with games like The Elder Scrolls and The Witcher pushing boundaries in immersion and player choice.

Today, RPG elements are everywhere, even in hybrids like Dark Souls and shared-world experiences like Destiny.

A blog post I publish dives into this evolution and what makes RPGs so compelling.

I came across this insightful blog that dives into how these technologies are reshaping everything from RPGs and puzzle games to roguelikes.

What’s the difference between an art director and a creative director in game development?
The Creative Director sets the vision - the story, tone, gameplay feel, and emotional direction of a game.
The Art Director translates that vision visually - style, character/environment design, UI, and more.
They collaborate closely but focus on different pillars of the game’s experience.
Here’s a full article I wrote that breaks down their roles, responsibilities, and how they work together:

Honor of Kings Celebrates Merdeka with Puteri Gunung Ledang Skin for Lady Zhen

Honor of Kings has released a new Puteri Gunung Ledang skin for Lady Zhen to celebrate Merdeka. The design features songket fabrics, hibiscus motifs, and ties into Malaysia’s legendary folklore. To top it off, local singer Mimifly dropped a new single “Nara” just for this campaign.

It’s rare to see Malaysian folklore represented in such a huge global game. What do you all think—does this move help preserve cultural legends, or is it just another skin drop?
