Dear Era FM Management, It has come to our attention that your recent broadcast included a segment that inappropriately used the sacred Hindu chant *Vel Vel* as a subject of humor. This chant, deeply revered by millions of Hindus worldwide, holds profound spiritual significance. It is a powerful invocation dedicated to Lord Murugan, symbolizing devotion, strength, and the triumph of good over evil. The use of *Vel Vel* in a comedic context is not only disrespectful but also demonstrates a lack of cultural and religious sensitivity. Religious chants and phrases are not meant to be trivialized or repurposed for entertainment. Such actions undermine the sanctity of the beliefs held by your Hindu audience and reflect poorly on your organization’s commitment to inclusivity and respect. We urge Era FM to acknowledge the gravity of this misstep and take immediate corrective action. A public apology is necessary to address the offense caused and to reaffirm your commitment to respecting all religious and cultural practices. Additionally, we strongly recommend that your team undergo cultural sensitivity training to prevent such incidents in the future. Respect for diverse beliefs is a cornerstone of any responsible media platform. We trust that Era FM will take this matter seriously and demonstrate the professionalism and accountability expected of a reputable broadcaster. We look forward to your prompt response and a formal apology addressing this issue.

PRESS STATEMENT BY MIC DEPUTY PRESIDENT AND TAPAH MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT DATUK SERI M. SARAVANAN
ERA FM NEEDS TO APOLOGISE OVER “BRAINLESS” VIDEO
KUALA LUMPUR (Mar 4, 2025): MIC condemns the brainless and disgraceful act by ERA FM staff who have shamelessly mocked the Hindu religion by making a joke out of the sacred kavadi dance while chanting "Vel Vel", in a video recently.
This is not just stupidity—it is a blatant insult to the faith and traditions of Hindus in Malaysia. Such a disgusting display of ignorance and disrespect has no place in our society.
ERA FM, as a media organization, should know better than to allow this kind of offensive nonsense. Their staff have proven themselves to be utterly unfit to work in the media industry if they lack even the most basic understanding of religious and cultural sensitivities. This is not humor but an act of mockery that deeply offends the Hindu community.
Such an act is a threat to the nation’s unity. Malaysia is built on the principles of mutual respect and harmony among different races and religions. When a major media outlet allows such an insensitive and offensive act, it creates division and damages the very fabric of our multicultural society. This is not a small issue as it is a dangerous precedent that cannot be ignored.
I demand that the government take immediate and firm action against ERA FM for this outrageous behaviour. At the very least, ERA FM must issue a public apology to the Hindu community, and the individuals responsible must face the consequences. No religion should ever be ridiculed in this manner, and those who engage in such despicable acts must be held accountable.
We urge the Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil to act against the station as allowing such a blatant act to go unpunished will set a dangerous precedent for the future for other media outlets.
