Hi, normally for plaster ceiling, should it be the same color as walls ? Assuming that the color chosen is on the lighter shade like off white / milky white / misty white ( slightly greyish ) or just any other lighter shade color. I've seen many house design pictures where their walls and ceiling are the same color to achieve that seamless layout. But a painter told me that ceiling should not be the same color as walls, so this point I don't really get it, 10 out of 10 house designs their walls and ceiling are one color.
Would appreciate some advice before I start painting. |

How about you paint one section first, see which fits or matches? You can get sample paint to test out. It's your own house, care less of what other people think. gobiomani liked this post

Yeah, i'm buying those 60ml small bottle paint tester, buying a few colors that I chosen, after that I'm planning to paint both walls and ceiling the same color tone. It's your own house, care less of what other people think. sykz liked this post

plaster ceiling color is less important than the lighting you will install, which will make much more differences

your painter is obviously the old school type, which is annoying because they always seem to want to do things their own "traditional" way.
the modern minimalist way is to do 1 colour for ceiling and wall, including the cabinets. same goes for flooring, 1 type/colour only. |

I've seen a friend's and also a hotel where the plaster ceiling colour is darker tone than the wall and I think it looks fabulous...
As suggested, you will need to test your own preference, one man's poison may be another man's meat.. You might hate or like it...BUT in my experience, you really need to test out 1 whole wall with the whole plaster ceiling painted Just a small area will not give you the whole idea... So you might need to spend EXTRA to test your own preference BUT than again, its better to have painted the whole house and then only decide to change and that will cost even more. This speaking from personal experience ;-) but its all up to you and your budget. Hope that helps |

As a rule of thumb for indoors, try to keep your ceiling a lighter colour than your walls.
