I've read in reviews that the ipod touch safari browser does not support flash or java so some web pages will not display properly. Why? What is the technical reason for this? Is it a hardware limitation? Or can it be fixed in future firmware updates?

iPod touch is still new, so such problem is common.
I think that this issue can be fixed in the future firmware update.

Temporary use it to surf normal websites first.. then wait for future update for the Safari.
You still can enjoy music and video at bigger screen.
