Thinking of replacing my 2017 Asus (still working) but stuck at 8GB with a framework or something which I can upgrade from time to time. The laptop is good, but memory is soldered.
Anyone here using framework? Good/bad? How long have been using it

The next gen will be with soldered LPDDR5 due to the form factor of that market design. SODIMM still with DDR5, CAMM2 for LPDDR5 (not for crazy high speed variant). Problem is they don't officially sell here
So import costs are kinda high
Personally I would say just look at some ThinkPad T/X/P series and see if any fits your needs

The laptop is good, but memory is soldered. Anyone here using framework? Good/bad? How long have been using it Sell your laptop and buy a new one? If you are adventurous and if you know someone who knows BGA rework you can actually upgrade soldered memory on most laptops. This depends of course, whether its schematics are available Armand666 may be able to do this Framework - For me I don't think it's currently a good choice right now due to somewhat immature firmware/software support, and their laptops aren't exactly 'cheap' either after factoring import charges and duties. Their upgradability isn't that much of a selling point either This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Feb 27 2025, 05:43 AM
