Hi all,
I recently noticed a big crack in my wall and it has opened up so much that I can see light from the other side. Previously it was a smaller crack but we hired a odd job contractor to plaster over it many years ago. Now, the plaster is coming out and we can see the deep crack underneath.

Room 2

This the view from the other side of the wall - Room 1

There's another hairline crack (horizontal + vertical) on the opposite wall of Room 1.

Is it as serious as I think it is - like need to get expert to check and vacate the room (second story) asap?

Is your floor indicating /showing cracks as well? if floor indicate something similar, crack floor tiles? floor slab showing deep floor cracks? maybe indicating foundation settlement. It caused by the weight of the building compressing the soil over time. If got this issue ..your column will automatically will be effected as well.....

If it is not affect the floor slab... you did mention wall cracks started showing slowly overtime.. i notice in the picture attachment , there is no proper termination between brickworks and column... brick is not tie properly to the column.... and there's no Exmet steel mesh- reinforce brick between brick and RC column.

I did not see any dowel bar slot in between the column as well... should have horizontal dowel bar slot interval sequence to the column- to hold the bricks and column together... that is why due to years of brick expansion due to changes and humidity...you can see slowly crack happening if it not properly tie together between concrete and bricks.. or between brick and brick....

hope this clarify a bit on your situation

cheers mate
