i'm certainly doing self-learning, but it wouldn't hurt having an attentive tutor for feedbacks and dynamic interactions. would it?

I dont think youtube is a substitute for all forms of learning.

YouTube is not a good tools

But for fast learner

YouTube is best

Vast amount of knowledge
On demand, 24H

2nd, just watch Chinese drama with English sub also can.

Tutor is just too slow.
U need 3 hours practice daily to see notable results in 1 year
(Usable in basic comm)

If not, u give up, if drag too long.

I saw alot of mandarin class ads on insta/facebook for various ages, kids and adults. Maybe you can try contact them?

Try watch mandarin movies with english sub and listen to mandarin song, that would help alot.

YouTube and China drama for verbally communication maybe yes. For writing, grammar and understanding I don't think so. Not that easy for beginners.

Other than physical class, TS also can get virtual class, or download apps to learn chinese.

Nothing to add about the tuition center, but just some advice to not limit yourself to only one form of instruction. Go to classes, use any app that you are comfortable with, watch mandarin shows, listen to the music, speak to friends even though you make mistakes and they laugh at you. Good luck!

Well, I can tell you that a year ago Mandarin sounded like absolute gibberish to me. After many hours of study and practice, I am still a long, long way to go to actually hold a conversation. But at least it is not still gibberish to me anymore. So keep it up and something might come out of all the hard work

Depend on what you wanna learn. Speaking and listening only or writing and reading

If only speaking and listening just go with karaoke and drama with English sub will be good.

If writing and reading good luck. Need proper tutor.

has to be local tutor. I found a platform called superprof with tons of local tutors here and am filtering out to find one suitable for me. Concurrently, I'm self learning while doing duolingo.

Honestly, living here has been challenging, especially as someone unable to speak my own mother tongue— which is ironic considering this isn't China. I've faced more hostility from my own kind for this, and even my peers (non-chinese) dont get treated the same way I do.

It has reached to the point that now I actively avoid kopitiams and any interactions with my own kind.

you know why a toddler can learn "fast" for language?
it is actually not fast, because they have plenty of time.

i suggest you listen to the language whenever your are free/ driving repeatedly. you only need 3~4 hrs. in less than a month, you can talk already.

I work in international MNC, no issues here. It is expected for everyone to converse English here. Day-to-day life is extremely hard here.
