Oriental Kopi has abandoned its plan to increase service charges during the upcoming Chinese New Year.

In a Facebook post last night, the popular restaurant chain apologised for its earlier announcement regarding the planned service charge hike during the festive period.

no its not, in restaurants like mcd or kfc the workers get paid double for working during public holiday, did they hike the food price or service tax during that period? then how is this justify "normal"? if this become norm soon we will see whatever also raise price during festive season, if they decided to open during cny, then pay the workers more for working on public holiday

Because they are located in the malls? And they cannot just close during cny. So they are basically saying see we open during cny for you so we need to charge extra but alot of people don't know u get penalty per day of closure by mall management.

Lesson learnt, next time don’t announce service charge hike too early. Do it a day b4 CNY, ppl too busy to viral this.

Koppi Rotti in Temerloh also did this hanky panky to me on 2023 CNY. Charged 20% service charge. Reported to KPDN

Other big fast food chains and restaurants didn’t even raise their price during festival season, what’s the logical reason for oriental coffee to do so?

Price raising culture at its best, kena diu only as usual tersipu-sipu or 'what happened?' remark.

But say if even as a simply raise prices guy removed the extra charges, not that we won't find ways to compensate those profit losses in the future. Its either today or tomorrow only wat.

Business always tunggang staff to increase price. I used to earn triple pay during pre-CNY days as a cashier in local supermarket. but they don't charge customers extra .

What cost the CEO /franchise owner when paying triple for that few days only? probably few brand new tires for his Mercedes dan sewaktu dengannya.

To be fair especially the Midvalley outlet they should cherish their workers. Since it's bit Yahoodee price but if can id love to personally tip these workers cause those Myanmar or whatever they are really hard working and food quality always good. Kalau aku T5 I'll give RM10 to the waiter that serve me everything. Very good food but don't be greedy like the grandfather kopitiam and dilute the brands awesome image now. Food good n service great my honest opinion.

Many people made it clear that they aren't happy & thus won't patronize. Oriental Kopi kenot afford to be greedy & take a hit, so it did a u turn.

the prob is if oriental naik then kfc mcd all follow then next time every public holiday naik harga wei.

but then, those kopitiam naik harga how to report? mostly no receipt and sure is verbal only.

it's abnormal for a listed or big corporation company to simply raise their service charge. you don't see those fast food chains to simply raise theirs service charge. their prices already premium unlike those small small kopitiam.

And they are also taking a risk. What if CNY no customer? They will also rugi.

If that extra 2% service fee is too much for you, then can choose not to patronize.
