KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — A landslide occurred early Friday morning (January 17) on Jalan Ion Delemen in Genting Highlands, blocking access to the Grand Ion Delemen Hotel and Jalan Amber Court.



Bentong district police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar confirmed that no loss of life or damage to property was reported in the incident.



The landslide, which blocked both sides of the road, was reported to the police at 2.47am.



"Works to clear the roads were conducted and completed by 2pm on Friday, with access resumed for all vehicles,” he said in a statement.



Zaiham assured the public that both the authorities and the Genting Highlands security team would continue to monitor the area

He urged the public not to speculate or spread false information regarding the incident.

In a statement, Resorts World Genting clarified that access to Genting Highlands via the main road, Jalan Genting Highlands, remains unaffected.

Meanwhile, the Grand Ion Delemen Hotel issued a statement on its Facebook page, apologising for the inconvenience caused by the temporary restriction to their property due to the landslide.

"The safety and comfort of our guests are our top priorities,” the hotel stated.

"More updates will be shared soon — we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

The authorities reiterated that the landslide is confined to Jalan Ion Delemen and has not disrupted operations or access to Genting Highlands’ main attractions.

A landslide occurred in the early hours of 16 December 2022 near the Malaysian town of Batang Kali, Selangor, displacing 450,000 m3 (16 million cu ft) of soil and burying campsites at an organic farm. The accident trapped 92 people under the collapsed slope; most were campers from the farm.

31 people were killed and 61 were rescued, with 8 people requiring hospitalisation.

Operasi pembersihan tanah runtuh itu dijangka selesai malam ini dan akan dihentikan sekiranya cuaca hujan atas faktor keselamatan.
Kejadian tanah runtuh itu berlaku sekitar 5.40 petang semalam, ekoran hujan lebat yang berterusan sejak 4 petang, namun tiada kemalangan jiwa dilaporkan.



Runtuhan itu bagaimanapun tidak melibatkan laluan utama ke Genting Highlands kerana ia berlaku di laluan untuk ke kawasan lain di pusat peranginan tanah tinggi terkenal itu.

TS manyak masa trace the history of landslides at D'elemen Hotel.....

Stayed there a couple of times, quite ok, but yeah, risk of landslides.

No matter how great the engineering is. You can't fight nature.

damn beautiful mountain spoil by human being.

I no civil engineer, can't really say for sure but there have been an influx of many Chinese mainland developers in Genting Highlands and Gohtong Jaya, but the location of these development on slopes is very scary - if I want to buy properties there, I might prefer local ones like LBS Bina Group.

I also noticed that most condos in Genting Permai and Gohtong Jaya are not built on slopes.
