A point to note on the argument that United buys the wrong players. I think it is United buying the right players only for them to become wrong when integrating into the team.

We can track some of United's recent departures and their performance :

De Gea - Key player for Florentina
Henderson - FA Cup winner
Greenwood - Key player and almost Ligue 1 top scorer.
McTominay - Serie A winner
Elanga - Key player for Forest
Antony - MVP for Betis and could yet win a European trophy

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - Player of the year at West Ham

I think at the time, it was right value as he didn't really have other offers.

He was bought as part of Ole's effort to replicate Sir Alex's young British talent strategy.
