Corsair has been making PSU since the second half of 2006...
They unveiled two appetizers to market, 520W and 620W PSU.
The performance and product specification is really great.
I knew some users take them to compare with Seasonic's M12 series.
No matter the spec and appearance, both of them have something in common.
Hence, I analyze them by a comparison.

Price is always significant to consume, so:
Seasonic M12 about US$148
Corsair HX520W about US$121
If you are the users who care about quality,
guarantee period and reasonable price, Corsair HX520W might be a better choice.

The Corsair HX520W Modular Power Supply
We take a look at the package first, it's a bit bigger than some "same-level" product.

The major heat dissipating system is the 12cm temperature-control fan.
The RPM is low when light loading. If in a heavy loading situation, the noise is still acceptable.
user posted image

There is a cellular heat dissipating "holes" for a better heat-dissipation.
It is a "auto-switch", no need to put a 110/220v switch there.

12V x 3, up to 54A, 480W
That can support most of mid-range to entry-level high-end VGA,
which under SLI/ Crossfire mode without problems

The settings under OS:
CPU: 333X10=>3333Mhz
DRAM: DDRII 1000 CL4 4-4-9
VGA: 2X ELSA HD260XT
The voltage of DFI P35 is a little low, that's because the power consumption is keep on.

OCCT is an useful testing software
In the test, it can make all the cores in a full-loading status

The variation of the CPU's voltage is more related to motherboard's design.
The performance is good if the voltage can reach 1.3 to 1.34V while all cores is full loaded.
user posted image

3.3V: about 3.22 to 3.25V, the voltage "drop" about 1% only
user posted image

5V: about 4.76 to 4.81V, also, the voltage "drop" about 1% only
user posted image

12V: it sticks in 11.9V
user posted image

OCCT is mainly for testing the voltage (3.3/5/12V) variations of CPU and RAM while under OS full-loaded.
For some minimal error of mobos or high-end VGA cards, it is not for it.

The PSU works fine with quad-core CPU and 2600XT CrossFire in a OC situation.
In the test,
The RPM of the fan is not high and the working temperature is acceptable too(around 40C) includes all the merits I introduced,
this PSU shows a high C/P ratio.

The coming up review of mine is the most popular Elsa 8800GT 512MB VGA card.
Then, I'll use Corsair HX520W PSU again!!

Yes, they do have new series now. TX series comes in 2 flavor - 650W and 750W. For me the older 520W is more than enough but if the price is ok, i'll get 650W for my new rig.

ST50F should be RM50 cheaper than ST56F.

HX520W certainly a great PSU.We also have Mushkin 550W Modular PSU at RM3XX in LYN.

Let me show how does the packaging different from any other manufacturer ..

I've opened many but may not used too many PSU .. but this is far one of the best PSU packaging I've ever opened. solid inside out ..

user posted image

The psu was wrapped with a plastic bag and placed within this thick foam. Very secured as the foam is about 2cm thick and could absorb lots of vibrations or impact.

PSU specification, should be the same as the website as well.

All the cables needed, and plus side that I've got from this unit is it support 2 X PCIE- 6+2 pins which was absent in older batch. So I can run this PSU on my 2900XT with CCC over clocking enabled..

I didn't aspect this as most of the review out there were for older batch and it wasn't supporting PCIE- 6+2 ..

Great job by Corsair knowing what people wants..

Anyway the PSU is definitely silent and doesn't produce random buzz sound like some other PSU does ..

By far the most satisfied PSU ever used and definitely beat CoolerMaster and Enermax for sure..

Overall quality of the PSU and leads still can't beat Tagan coz it operates based on more flexible modular cables rather than thick rounded leads offered by Tagan.

Just for ur information both Tagan and Mushkin is made by the same manufacturer according to one of the staff at ATE shop... which is why both PSU features the same thickness and types of cables.

So both are solid but the Mushkin would be better deal as lower price.. it's another one that I would recommend after this Corsair HX620..

I chosen it due to it's modularity and flexibility of cables.. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

The benefits of modular is better cable management. However, I read that the disadvantage of modular is that the modular interface could be a weak link (if not well made) compared to direct cable from the PSU inside.

Between OP650 and HX620, what does each of them have in advantage of each other and which would you guys choose over?

And when the Corsair PSU was released, many people had been complaining about them breaking down. Is this true or it does not exist anymore?

and so far so good. very stable + silent rclxms.gif I decided to buy it after I read THIS REVIEW. And according to
the review also, Corsair is using Seasonic psu.

QUOTE(AnandTech | The Single 12V Rail SilverStone Olympia OP650)
115VAC 12V Rail Tests

The 12v rails all performed very well during the test and none ran out of spec. We tested the power supply with the little OCP knob off as we mentioned before (the default configuration). That means that we should have been working with only one 12v rail. As we connected the cables to our machines we discovered that there are in fact four 12v rails at all times. It doesn't matter if you switch this knob off or on, the result will be the same. This could have just switched off OCP on each rail, meaning that they would be separated in some other way. The rails are separated to supply the following:

  • 12V1 is supplying the Motherboard (yellow/blue cable)

  • 12V2 is connected to the 4pin connector for the CPU (yellow/black cable)

  • 12V3 is supplying the second 4pin connector which results in the 8pin connector (yellow cable)

  • 12V4 is responsible for all the rest including the PCI-Express cards and components (yellow/green cable)
