Before I ask my question, let me give you a bit of background.

In the UK and other EU markets, finding used (relatively high-end) plasma TVs isn’t difficult. But here in Malaysia, it’s almost impossible—at least in my experience.

Yes, I know plasma production stopped a long time ago, but you’d think with plasma production plants in the region, Malaysia’s used market would be flooded with high-end, last-gen Panasonic plasmas. Yet that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Even finding a last-gen Pioneer Kuro is nearly impossible.

Is this because people choose to hold onto them after paying so much? Or is something else going on? Are they being thrown away?

These plasma sets were definitely sold here.

But after 12/13 years where have they all gone?

I’d love to hear your thoughts—if you have any answers, please share!

The TV failed, and no longer supported by after-sales service.

Of cos get disposed by owner.

I had a LG Plasma (2006-2018), half screen went dark, technician straight up said not worth to repair.

Another Samsung Plasma (2010-2020), power board kaput, Samsung replied no spare parts.

11-year old 42" Panasonic still going strong, at my uncle's place now. Upgraded to an OLED last September.

What are your thoughts on the second hand market here? I've noticed, it's not as active. Do you know why - do people hold onto things more, or do they throw them away.

Malaysian always don't really have love towards second hand electrical products...

Always buy new whenever it's spoiled...

Thanks to high cost of repairing, lack of spare parts & expertise people around....

20 years and still counting.

The LG lasted still 15 years.
