Currently looking at used Mazda 2 and 3

Around 2-3 years
Mazda 2 around 80k
Mazda 3 around 110k

Around 10 years
Mazda 2 around 30k
Mazda 3 around 50k

Is it still worth to buy the older 1 or the hidden trouble ain't worthwhile?

Been driving various used proton since I got my license.

Currently looking for a change since all old cars start to have more issues that are expensive to repair.

Surveyed Perodua Honda and Toyota but not really to my taste or /k have any suggestions?

Likely to only consider EV 5 years down the road with more mature infrastructure and probably cheaper car due to proton and Perodua protection and also battery process breakthrough.

mazda you better speak to owner's group and ask around for issues and parts pricing/availability, especially if you go for model 10 years old and you stay out of klang valley.

Mazda 2 Vios/ city class and Mazda 3 is Corolla City class. You have 100K + to spend. Why look at used cars?

If you think proton is expensive to repair, why are you even considering a 10 y/o mazda?

Have 2 Mazda's. A 3 & Cx5. My Mazda 3 is approaching 8 yrs.

No big issues throughout my ownership until now. Just regular service. Still love it.

Of course it still depends on how good the owner maintains it.

just continue to drive your old proton and spend your money elsewhere, even if it's expensive it's not as expensive as paying for a new / used car. just remember even if you buy a used car at 100k or less, the maintenance is not your proton / perodua level of costs

also - if you're driving a proton and feel it's expensive to maintain, then it'll be even higher costs to maintain a mazda

I share my process la for mazda 3 2018 bought last year march 2024.Go check yourself ask for test drive, see if got full service history. Apply standard sekenhen car check process. mazda sc can do detailed check for you, other bengkel also some can. all-in all i replaced belting, tensioner, rocker cover, all filters and liquids, total around 3k and some of your time because sc sometimes high volume and need to order parts

yeah i wish i heard this advice before.

kinda regret buying new car . Should've just continue maintained old car. cars and their depreciation really are a scam.

especially now with more cars going electronic, its even more of potential hassle

best to have a simple and basic car lying around and does the job getting you from A to B.

also it realllly depends on whether (1) the car has original spare parts still being sold (2) if your workshop / foreman is good to troubleshoot and service your car (3) your own research and knowledge of the car you drive and the parts you buy

if these 3 criteria is fulfilled i believe a car can last you >10-15 years easily with minimal headache

USUALLY cars breakdown due to neglect and lack of knowledge , although there are some cars are faulty by design (buy wrongly and get ready to lose money) , generally most local cars are fairly decent overall in terms of reliability + spare parts price + maintenance

i think the sweet spot is between 6-7 years old car since just out of 5 years free service and warranty. Should be able to get a Mazda 3 for <75k with still very good condition.

I bought a 2018 unit last year, so far very good.

Have that much budget doesn't mean I have to max out my purchase. First few years usually the biggest depreciation rate so considering used car for lower price.

Had various breakdown such as abnormal AC, turbo faulty and radiator leak.
Spare parts hard to source since proton and suzuki cars >10 years.

Probably getting 6-7 years old car which no more free service and warranty for bigger price dip like other /k mentioned and less problem compared to 10 years old car.

Preve turbo issue. Still can drive but fan freaking loud. Forget whether the turbo still got kick in extra acceleration since I didn't drive for quite some time except my family members.
Persona AC abnormal on and off.
Vitara also AC half the time unable to on for unknown reason and several occurrence of radiator leak. The anxiety when driving halfway on bridge and highway.

RIP...happy hunting and i hope you have a better car next round, AFAIK mazdas should be reliable and personal opinion is to take mazda 2 which is 2-3 years old. But please do check thoroughly on the car's condition especially for flooded units.

why mazda 2 instead of 3 is i would prefer to have some buffer money to replace some parts first before i take it for a long drive

why not mazda 2 10 years old is i personally don't like the design laugh.gif

what care you driving?

Ertiga? didnt realise got turbo.

Honestly, really depends on which car you get.

I got 17 year old and 14 year old car.
both purchased 2nd hand initially.

The 14 year old got no problems since day 1.
The 17 year old got radiator leput on me 3 months in. laugh.gif

All in all, it's a hit and miss as they were both purchased at roughly 10 year old laugh.gif

Both P1 also.

Mazda 2 is just B segment like City.
