these cars are mostly recond, salesman will definitely tell you can

technically can use 95 on a 97/98, it will not be optimal performance and may get engine knocking sound.

but i like to know real owners with the experience.

looking at US owner posts, ron 95 (91octane) is ok, just will result in lower hp.

"From the Owners Manual:

Fuel Requirements
The engine is designed to operate using unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 93 AKI (98 RON) or higher.
If unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 93 AKI (98 RON) is not available, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91 AKI (95 RON) may be used with no detriment to engine durability or driveability. However, you may notice a slight decrease in maximum engine performance and you may hear some knocking (pinging) from the engine while using 91 AKI (95 RON) fuel. Use of 91 AKI (95 RON) fuel will not affect your warranty coverage.
▼ Fuel octane rating
Using a gasoline with a lower octane rating can cause persistent and heavy knocking, which can damage the engine.
Do not be concerned if your vehicle sometimes knocks lightly when you drive up a hill or when you accelerate. See your dealer or a qualified service technician if you use a fuel with the specified octane rating and your vehicle knocks heavily or persistently."

above is US owner manual, couldnt find local owner manual, and im not an owner, so take all this with a grain of salt.

Solutions
1. Use RON97
2. Tune the ECU for RON95 (ECUTEK)
3. Use RON95 but don't rev too high (why buy an NA sports car if you're going to drive like this)

not too sure about FA24, but i run RON95 on my FA20 for half a year already without any issue.

However, it does love higher octane like 97 and 100. Higher octane yield noticeable, but not too much power gain. and not to mention, the engine run so much smoother. Fuel pump and engine produce significantly less noise as well.

For daily drive, 95 is just fine. when i want to wroom wroom, that is when i go for 97. icon_idea.gif

Wait for the day where Govt to remove petrol subsidy to come early, then no more anxiety already, just pump RON97 as the price difference is not so large anymore tongue.gif

make sense. but i think if they stick to their B and T categorizing, i probably wont qualify for subsidy anyways.

You can tune it to 95/97/98ron with ecutek or whichever flash tune. Ecutek allows you to switch 95 to 97/98 map, provide ur car come with cruise control function. Or else think might need another dongle to switch map.

Some early batch GT86/BRZ can be gotten below 100k nowadays if you know where to look, but dont expect too good condition as a lot being abused or accident units (over drift gg) seen few units at my mechanic place mod kau kau until engine blown, demod, fix back and fast fast sell out cheap. laugh.gif Better get a reputable mechanic to check on the car before decide.
