My current situation is as follow:
1. Need to have printer and prefer laser because I would be away for 2 to 3 months and I fear inkjet print might get clog as no one will be around the house when I am away.
2. Just basic print black and white, if possible printer should have scanner too for photocopying. I will not be printing that many stuff, mostly to print flight ticket or some word documents.
3. Wifi would be good option to have so I can use phone to print.
4. Most important is cheap/affordable. Don't need to have fancy brand as long as can get the job done.
So any suggestion?

Keep the power on, and your inkjet won't clog.
If you switching it off every time not in use, both inkjet or laser will damage very fast.

Why not consider going to a stationary shop every time you want to print? I am somewhat in the same situation as you and I find it less maintenance to do this, plus I get to choose if I want photo quality print, or just b&w, or laser colour, or print in A3 for extra size. Prices in my area are about 20 sen to RM1 per page. I actually do have a Fuji Xerox colour laser All-In-One that does not print so well. I'm keeping it because I scan all my receipts so I have a copy in case of tax relief claims. The scanner works well, and I got this AIO free. Many people are selling AIOs cheap in Carousell or Mudah, all with the printer part not working well. Here's one on Carousell being given away freeThis post has been edited by stormer.lyn: Jan 2 2025, 09:35 AM

Just dont buy ink tank printer if you dont print regularly.
Inkjet with cartridge like Canon E470 is just fine. The print head is on the cartridge itself thus no need scare print head damage. Just kept a spare ink as backup.
Anyway, most original cartridge dont clog even for months. It is usually ink tank and non original ink that clog.

Sometime can be troublesome due to distance to the shop.

Go print shop je lah. Infrequent use=never ever use inkjet. Laser printer also OK but do not buy the cute small ones. Those are rubbish. I have a Fuji cilok 205p that now prints all black after barely 2 cartridges. What a POS. My old brother laser (HL 1430 square box) lasted well in excess of 15000 pages on one drum.

Only you can decide if worth it or too troublesome. Last year I did not even print a single page, even though I flew to another country. Thank goodness there are 3 stationary shops within 5 minutes of my place should I need the service. But if you absolutely have to, than get a Brother laser.
