I got a flash deal on the Maxis app for home fibre, 1Gbps for RM249 RM159/month with 24 months contract. I'm not sure if the price stays even after contract ends, it is a tempting offer. Should I make the switch or just opt for the Stay with Unifi plan?

My suggestion is stick to Unifi if staying landed

Service recovery is much faster than Maxis if there's a fault as TM's contractor work 7 days

Condo doesn't matter as service fault is rarer

I took up the deal, with 8 mths free subscription, so far so good, it's about 5 months now. The price will revert to Rm249 after 24 mths as per contract. My fiber infra is under Allo, so far didn't had any issue.

What I liked is easier to configure the DNS over TLS, and no connection issue to europe / international sites especially at night which was prevalent with unifi, and smooth IPTV streaming.

The price is for 24 months only, after which you can shop for another attractive offer. There is also ongoing Maxis fibre offer, Rm99 for 300mbps for 2 years.
Fault recovery depends on area, even Unifi also cannot always guaranty 24 hours recovery for any downtime esp weekends and public holidays.

True, Unifi pretty slow at night when I'm browsing International Website particularly when I'm reading Manhwa and Manga. These include faster loading on my TIDAL, Prime, Crunchyroll and other stream apps. Since I'm also an existing Maxis Postpaid user, me and all my family member (as supplementary) got unlimited 5G Data.

I would go for Maxis deal.

After 2 years, look for other telco plan.

Unifi>Maxis>Unifi, waiting to switch again user here
I subscribed to Unifi during MCO, switched to Maxis because of bad routing till my contract with Maxis has ended.
The only reason for me to choose Unifi is because of the 6 months free bill, however...if you get the transfer ID from Unifi and go argue with Maxis, they will give you the same free bill offering as well...

I will switch back to Maxis again once my contract with Unifi has ended, because their routing is equally bad like 4 years ago...

So if Maxis counter you with the same free 6 months, you will stay on?

They counter me with 8 months
I declined them as I need public IP but they said I still need to pay for it
Also, I asked them about the 1Gbps RM159 promo...they refused to give it to me
After I moved to Unifi, that promo showed up in my Maxis app lol

To be honest, if given a second chance...I would stick with Maxis
Be missing out plenty of free speed upgrade that's for sure
But at least the international routing is better, cant browse twitter before bedtime is just sad

Currently on my 3rd month using Maxis Fibre after switching from Unifi. From what I’ve experienced so far, a bad day on Maxis gives you higher latency and slightly lower download speed (I experienced this for 3 nights) but doesn’t impact browsing or streaming much (gaming might be a different story), while a bad day on Unifi (virtually every night since backdoor-govt/MCO days) would render the internet almost unusable for me because of packet loss. Obviously this is just my own anecdotal experience and ymmv.

Agree. Public IP is non negociable for Maxis promo currently. I am lucky to have move away from Unifi otherwise have to consider upgrading to avoid their CGNAT which is terrible.
I use Maxis 100mbps on their private IP which is good enough for my use case.

I can still do streaming and downloading during night time with decent speed. Hopefully Maxis can maintain it this way. Unifi during its bad day is almost unusable.

Yes, Maxis consider public IP as an added service hence the extra charge
I need the public IP for my VPN because TIME's routing to China is bad
Guess there's not a single ISP that gives you everything in Malaysia...

Either bad routing, bad pricing, bad coverage or bad upload speed...

My decision is leaning more towards Unifi, but I do like that way of switching every 2 years once contract ends. I think I'll wait until the new Stay With Unifi package before making my final decision

Stay with Unifi...

Maxis backbone is piggyback on Unifi fibre cable, so to avoid the ball being kick around should or in the event if you encounter internet connection issues.

Also the included Maxis SIM card which is usually 4G, may not have good signal when in-door. If your house have this coverage problems then just avoid Maxis... doesn't worth it.

As for VPN to work, you just need a Dynamic DNS (DDNS) you are good to go. The same goes to other legacy device too (eg. CCTV). Latest tech now have Cloud solutions, so not having a Public IPv4 address doesn't matters now days. But you will have the option to subscribe a Fixed Public IPv4 address from Unifi, for RM200/mth if you are willing to fork it.

Cheers... cool2.gif

Very true, also in case of downtime Unifi can easily compensate just like my friend as Unifi's cable been cut down by falling tree and he's in a remote area internet was down for 3 months but Unifi compensate him for 6 months bill rebate

This is the trick pull by them. Acctually no matter Unifi or Maxis, the most important thing is the service TM technician in the area. If tech lazy because non unifi, then too bad.
One thing is that there are less complaint of super slow speed during night time on Maxis.

I used Unifi for many years. Each there’s a problem, they take long time to fix.

Moved to Maxis, they keep my records of each issues, they make analysis, they propose solutions, they chase TM contractors to fix the issues, get my feedback to close the tickets. They have customer loyalty plans. All my houses use Maxis

They both have contractors and they usually come together. There are times only TM contractor came. However, this is the part where i dont need to chase TM. Maxis do it for me. Thats a good service

Well, I would everyone's encounter is different. Some say Unifi service is bad while some said Maxis is bad...

It all depends on the individual on how they view it and what are the level of expectations from ISP.

To me it is very simple, what work best for you then that's the best for you. biggrin.gif

Sometimes, I also have the urge to change every 2yrs just to reap the benefits of their offers/promo. laugh.gif

If you need faster speeds and plan to use a lot of data, upgrade is the better overall option. However, if your internet needs are modest, stay with Unifi.

Unifi now offering 6 months free, but 3 years contract.

So if I switch from Maxis -> Unifi, will Maxis attempt to match?

Yes they will. Once you get the transfer ID, call them up.
3 years contract is insane, unless you do take TV from them.

Yes, Maxis Fibre primarily uses Telekom Malaysia ™ Unifi's fibre infrastructure as its backbone. This means that Maxis Fibre relies on TM's nationwide fibre optic network to provide internet services to customers.

However, Maxis also has its own fibre network in certain areas, allowing it to offer direct fibre connections without depending entirely on TM. But in most cases, especially for residential users, Maxis Fibre is running on TM’s High-Speed Broadband (HSBB) network, similar to other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like TIME, CelcomDigi, and Astro Fibre.

So, if you're using Maxis Fibre in areas covered by TM, it’s essentially using the same physical network as Unifi, but with Maxis' own pricing, packages, and customer service.

What? Time using TM fibre infra?
Same physical network at the last mile. After that all your routing follows Maxis own, not same as Unifi.

What equipment setup your sister is using compared to yours?
Both of you using the exact same DNS server?

I join a gym that has Maxis 1gbps but that Kaon mesh is a piece of shit. I always help myself and power cycle it.

Randomly lose IPv6 address, handoff between mesh node randomly stop working, and some other weird problems I cannot diagnose without a laptop.

You can use your existing hardware for Maxis, as long as you don't care about the landline and USB modem.

Maxis landline is connected to the router instead of ONU.

If Maxis give you better price, go with them.

yes ,, I also stand with Unifi but downgrade to 100Mbps..

Yes .. I went to the unifi store at my area .. to do this downgrade ..and feeling the staff are very pushy of offer package,

asking me why do this downgrade to 100 mbps .. from 800M pro packages with unifi TV packages ,

So t told her blandly ..mau jimat $$$ laah

and she still insisting me to choose between netflix or add on sim card package..

which if i take the sim card at 39 add 1 ringgit to get the 230data usage on this sim card ..she will than give me 6 months free for the 100 mbps .. downgrade package but only give me 3 months free with this Netflix packages

Very very snaky at the unifi store ..

So finally I took the 100mBps downgrade with sim card which the sim card has no contract on it..

so .. do your smart choice with unifi store .. cheers

Your 100mbps how much monthly? If it's Rm89, might as well request for SWU 5.0 500mbps at Rm90.

last time dunno so much about this itemize thing.
and for so long already, im not sure whether last time package can be separate out for the unifi TV or memang bundle together.
and we were, at that time, offer free upgrade from 100mbps to 300mbps without extra charges.
and to be honest, im not sure whether they got silently increase the charge on the bill for 300mbps after sometimes or not.
LOL.
then now reveal by the telemarketer oni know...
and now this new package offer by them with the condition that i dont entitled for further free upgrade speed if given to other customer.
but for me, after the upgrade, the speed is more than enough.
even i dont need 300mbps honestly. just because last time got free upgrade so just take lor.
